Default Freerange hamsters?

I was wondering if anyone else allows their hamsters to freerange?

When I first got Phoebs, I "hamster-proofed" my room and allowed her to roam and explore - however I didn't seem to be able to hamster proof it enough, she always found her way around things to get under the bed and once managed to get stuck inside the printer (think I posted about that!). Now she is allowed to roam on the bed under close supervision and has things to climb on - although she seems to like climbing up and down me best.

When we visit my OH's parents their lounge is perfect for hamster freeranging as it's much easier to ham-proof. Phoebs does seem to enjoy having her freedom there.

Anyone else allow their hamsters to freerange?

No, I don't because there are too many escape routes, even with a door shut. BUT if I could manage to ham-proof I would, but with two kids running around it's virtually impossible

It is one of the first things we do when checking out new houses - find out where is hamster proofable?! If it isn't possible I don't want to look any further as it is important to me as I don't use roll-around balls.

We can't let our hamsters freerange, they'd either be eaten by cats or squished by the dog! But we do let the romp on the bed-though Nelson prefers just to sit on my tummy and be cuddled! Well, sometimes!
