Default re: Boromir: The elusive hamchild (Decisions! Who to welcome home)

So I had a bit of a fright with Boromir tonight.

He is still quite jumpy & I've come to terms with that. He isn't one I can just reach in and lift out, he will play "hide in the wicker tube" and sniff at me for ages until realising I'm ok & come out

Tonight I had the cage top off as I was going to spot clean, he had been pottering around and coming up to me anyway. As he was sat listening to me moaning about the heat, his ears suddenly flattened, he turned, and like a cliff jumper ran to the corner of the cage and launched himself off like a flying squirrel!

He landed square on the floor and I was in too much shock for a moment to process what I had just seen. It was hillarious to watch (I keep replaying it in my mind) but like...HE JUST JUMPED OFF THE TABLE!

I quickly got onto the floor and he was sat, looking a bt shocked..then promptly found some spilled ratty food and started pouching it ike nothing had happened!

I thought..oh lordy...I'll never catch him..but he let me pick him up and give him a poke and prod to check for injuries no problem!

My heart cannot take that kind of behaviour! I don't understand this little guy!

On happier news...he seems to be fine...he is sleeping loads in this heat and has put more weight on..he's 134g now...so happy about that!

here he is after a cage clean having a treat and seeming to have forgotten about his freefall

Hey, it's been a while and the little fluff has been a bit of a terror. A few weeks ago, when I went to feed him I saw the cage door open...yup...the previous night, in my tiredness I hadn't shut it properly.

The short story...he had raided the ratty treat box, found a corner and dug a hole through to the floorboards and made himself quite a cosy nest! I found him during his "treat trips" under a cupboard looking rather startled that I had foiled his midnight run!

Since then he hasn't come out much and our taming and trust has had a set back. However, I am taking my time and tonight he came out and let me have snuggles...I'm sure you'll agree he does steal your heart slightly

Wow, I'm so sorry that I have somehow missed your latest updates of your adorable, mischievous Boromir! It was wonderful catching up with all that I had missed though. I'm glad that he enjoyed his corn on the cob. His nose peeking out of the wooden house is so cute and made me giggle. I really am hoping that it cools down really soon. It is good that Boromir is managing to keep himself cool with the plate and the chilled cucumber though. Oh my, my heart skipped a beat when you described his shocking, flying squirrel stunt and his Houdini escaping the cage act! My goodness, he really has been a very active, adventurous ham lately and gave you quite a lot of scary moments! I'm so relieved that he was safe and sound in the end after each of these instances. I know how terrifying that must have been for you. I'm so glad that he is so food oriented so he was venturing out to get ratty treats which made catching him much easier for you. I really do absolutely LOVE all of his pictures and I must say that he totally steals my heart. I especially love the photo where he is making the most endearing expression and nibbling on that cute heart-shaped treat. That is just TOO precious and really should be framed. I love it, and I LOVE him!!!!! I am glad that the two of you shared snuggles tonight; those are some of the greatest moments ever. Have fun with your charming, adorable, and silly stunt-ham and please give him a cuddle for me, too.

He certainly is a handsome boy. What a lovely coat. I'm glad to hear he was caught from his escapades! It's very stressful having a hammy on the loose1

I love that photo of him with the heart shaped biscuit, adorable!
He's certainly been keeping you on his toes with his jumping off things & escaping, glad to hear all is ok now.

That must have been very nerve wracking when you discovered he was missing - I'm glad you managed to find him and return him back to the safety of his cage during one of his treat trips.

He is very handsome and looks very similar colour to my new girl, Maple.
