Exclamation I need help! I'm worried!

I'm new so I don't really know very well how to use these site or threads so bare with me it's my first day. That's not my problem though it's my two hamsters Suki and Lucia both female Syrian hamsters. Let's start with Suki. She sleeps a lot, yes I know they're nocturnal but she also sleeps for most of the night too. She will stay up for an hour or so but that's it. t's not that She's awake when I'm not sleeping because I'm up most of the night. I think she might be bored or depressed. they both have only one toy which neither of them like.
She also never uses her wheel. She ran on the one that was in the pet shop when I got her ,but not these one. I did make sure to get the right height too.

Now for lucid she bites on her cage and pretty much anything plastic ,but still not her toy. I got her from another owner and her wheel looked used or maybe a potty spot and so did the toy,but she uses neither. I put a cage on top of another cage for her,but it makes the bottom cage in the back in the shadows so I cant see anything

My main problem How can I entertain and make sure their happy and I need to desperately to trim Lucia's teeth. I don't have any money so I can't but anything, I don't have anything to connect toilet paper tubs with nor do I have any wood. It's my first time with any animal besides a fish and I worry for them so much I really want to be a good animal parent ,but I don't have the money right now for real toys.

P.S Don't worry though still have money for their food and bedding for them. Also it would be a huge help if you could also tell me of a way to get them out of their cages without a ball or a play pen Thanks.

Hi & welcome to the forum.
I think we need a little more info before we can really offer much help.
What size cages do your hams have?
Do they have plenty of deep substrate, preferably 15-20cm or more?
Do they have anything in the cages other than the one toy & wheel like a good sized house?
What are you feeding them? If their diet isn't giving them everything they need that could affect their behaviour as much as their environment.
Which wheel do you have & what size is it, have you checked to be sure they spin freely?

You can easily make more toys for them with things like toilet roll tubes & small cardboard boxes or tubes if you can't buy anything, you can use these to hide some food or treats in too which will help to keep them busy & they may enjoy chewing them.
If you scatter feed rather than use a bowl that will also help.
They do need more than a wheel & one toy though.
You could try them with whimzee dog chew, most hams love those to chew on, the toothbrush is best.

If your ham's teeth need trimming it's important to take her to a vet as soon as possible, I know you said you're short of money but you need to find some way to do this. It's not something you can just do yourself without risking doing more harm than good & if the teeth aren't trimmed then your ham will not be able to eat properly.

If you can get your hamsters out of the cage using the ball then you can set up a playpen with some home made toys & make a safe play area where they can explore or you can put toys in the bath (towel on the bottom & plug in!) to give them some out of cage time.

Hi Sukimoon. And welcome here! Cypher has given you some excellent advice.
Try and get a whimzee dog chew in a toothbrush shape from a pet shop. Most hamsters love those and this will help the teeth.
It is not necessary to spend money on toys. Many hamsters ignore them. The wheel must be right so look at cypher's advice about this. Use cardboard to make houses and tunnels. Use the centre of toilet rolls as tubes, cereal boxes can be cut down in size, biscuit/cracker boxes make hideaways. A tea bag box can be used as a house. Just cut the floor off and cut a door into it. Get cardboard boxes from the supermarket and use them to make the walls of a play area with cardboard toys inside. You can sit inside too if you make it big enough.
Finally use basic while toilet paper torn up into strips for Sukiyaki and Lucia to build their own nests. Nice and cheap and the best thing for them.
All cardboard things are easy to replace if they have fun tearing them to pieces!
