30 Days of April 2018
Day 1
This month will be mainly about our two hamsters Newt (Syrian) and Nugget (Roborovski). Newt is a red eyed cream Syrian hamster. His Mum and Dad (Halloumi and Rupert) live with Souffle, who bred him
I also thought it would be interesting to share a bit of the history of the cream hamster. The black eyed cream mutation of the Syrian Hamster, first occurred in 1951. The red eyed cream was created some time after 1958 from a black eyed cream and cinnamon hamster.
Apparently the first cream hamster to be bred was on the Isle of Jura in Scotland and some of the first litter escaped. I found a couple of interesting newspaper pieces about this.

Re: 30 Days of April 2018
Happy Easter to you too Serendipity. Hmm, cypher, bearing in mind the date on the newspaper articles- today...-and the facts cited, not least 40 feet for deep tunnels, I have a very strong feeling...However, the facts on the genetic mutations could well be accurate!
Newtie does look as though he is enjoying his outside adventure.

Re: 30 Days of April 2018
Newtie says he has never been on holiday to Jura, it must be some distant relative of his
The first two paragraphs of my post are true About the genetic mutation dates. McNewton is a clue (if you needed one!) as Newton is Newtie's full name. I believe hamster burrows have been found to be 40 feet deep in Syria!

Re: 30 Days of April 2018
Of course Newtie hasn't had such an exotic holiday. It must be his distant relative NewtieMcNewton!
You have form for this Serendipity, last time you did the month it was April and you started out with another crackingly good April Fool!
It is going to be a fun month. Just what we all need in the cold weather!

Re: 30 Days of April 2018
Great start to the month - I thought the articles where an April fools as you did something similar a couple of years back which I did fall through when I read it - but looks like Newt was having fun on his adventure though.
We hope you, Newt and Nugget are having a wonderful Easter!
