Re: 30 Days of April 2018
Thank you Cypher and Coco. I think it was you Coco who recommended the cheese cube for a robo and it is certainly very popular. He likes to run through it - sit in one wedge side or sit in the middle join.

Re: 30 Days of April 2018
Day 17
The Ferplast cage base has arrived today. I thought it was going to be yellow as per the photo but it is grey. Doesn't matter. I measured it and it is exactly 80cm by 50cm from very edge to very edge. And the Savic Mickey 2XL cage top fits perfectly! The only thing I noticed was that at the short ends the cage top didn't sit on the lip of the base well and there was a gap I could get my finger under. There was no extra plastic lip to hold the base at these ends and there is a small hole - presumably for a different fitting for a different cage. However once I closed the cage clips at the ends over the cage base it held it down firm in the right place - so all is good!
I had forgotten how much I liked that cage top and I had also forgotten that the bars are actually dark blue and not black. It is very strange seeing the cage with the grey base instead of the original blue - it looks like a totally different cage! The cage clips are much better on it than the skyline cages as they are metal, hold the top down firmly and easy to fasten and unfasten. And with the big front door you hardly ever need to take the top off anyway.
So it's all cleaned up now and when I get time I will think about setting it up for Nugget but not sure if I will get time this week. The yellow thing on the bars is a fitting for a Ferplast Sippy bottle which was impossible to remove and has been there permanently! Nugget already has a Ferplast Sippy bottle as it stuck to the tank well, so finally the annoying yellow holder will be useful! Except it is at the wrong end of the cage if I want to keep the layout the same - and it will not budge!
So if anyone is looking for a replacement base for a hamster heaven this is a cheap option. £16. With postage it was £20.
The base arrived in this enormous box!

Love the rear end photos of Newt in his hay house
The cage looks good, I like the neutral grey base. I can see the gap at the sides but it doesn't look big enough to be a problem at all.
Look forward to seeing how you set it up for Nugget, I'm sure you're going to love having that big front door again!

Re: 30 Days of April 2018
Thanks Cypher - there isn't a gap once the clips are closed -just when the top is resting on the base

Re: 30 Days of April 2018
Interesting facts about the black eyed and red eyed cream syrian hamsters being a mutation. They are still a lovely color though
