It's a great set up for Gaby now, lovely big area with lots of digging and tunnelling possibilities. No wonder she was cross when she thought it had been taken away from her. Cute that she checked everything carefully on her return. One happy girl there!

Gaby is now thoroughly enjoying burrowing and tunneling. When I woke up today morning, I found a little tunnel she burrowed along the glass wall, some 5 inches below the surface. It just melted my heart and happy cried a little seeing how much she loves it now.

I was reviewing all the pictures again, and realized one of the burst shots produces this beautiful gif of Gaby sticking her head out from beneath the substrate. (Hover over/click on thumbnail to animate gif)

I haven't had time to process and upload the video of Gaby burrowing. I will try to put it up soon though.

Aww, Gaby sticking her head out of the substrate is just TOO cute! It definitely made my day and made me giggle to see her happily enjoying all that extra substrate. She really is a happy ham. I love the animated gif, lol.

Yesterday when I got back home quite late, Gaby was already awake and running at the speed of light on her wheel. She usually pauses when I open the door to my apartment and waits to hear my voice. If she hears me calling out to her, she usually runs into her sand bath, has a nice bath, jumps out the side her sand bath and starts jumping along the glass wall, asking to be picked up and cuddled with. It's like she's saying Finally hooman! You're back! I missed you so much! Come and cuddle with me now!

Yesterday however, when she did this and I went to pick her up, she squeaked. That was the first time I ever heard Gaby squeaking! I guess it was a squeak of excitement since she did not seem agitated or defensive in any way. She waited to cuddle, took her quota of mealworms and started playing the usual game of running all over me. She didn't give me the annoyed nip she gives when she throws a hamtrum. So I guess it should be excitement.
Now speaking of her mealworm quota, I usually feed her two dried mealworms everyday along with her fresh vegetables. Now the key detail is Two mealworms. Why you might ask? You see there was a time when I was trying to train her to lie on her back (one of my previous posts), and the main treat I used was sunflower seeds and mealworms. What I used to do was give her a mealworm, lay her on her back, give the second one and 2-3 sunflower seeds. If stayed that way, she would probably even get a third mealworm. But she soon realized that she would get the third one only if she lay on her back, something she doesn't like doing. So what was Gaby's solution you might ask? Well, she only takes two mealworms now. Never a third. In fact, she won't take a sunflower seed either right after the mealworm. It is really cute how she just turns her head away after the second mealworm, ignoring all treats for at least 5 minutes. <3

Lovely to be able to watch her burrowing. I can't see what mine get up to because I have barred cages but I would love to see them in action

Aww, Gaby is a true pro burrower, lol!!! She does look so sweet trying to get her extra quota of cuddles from you, too.

I had to laugh that she denied herself the third mealworm and sunflower seeds just so she wouldn't feel obligated to be on her back, lol. She sure has strong determination, or maybe she realizes that you will give her those that she is missing in no time just for being her cute, silly self.

cypher lol yes! She burrows so much these days, that when I wake up in the morning, her flying saucer is half buried! Not to mention pretty much everything in the cage has been upturned when they fall into her little burrows!
BorisPasha I agree! It took me a moment to realize she was actually burrowing for me to see! This was the first time she burrowed along this wall, or at least when I am awake. I'm sure your little ones will pop a surprise burrowing session for you soon!

dreamtree1234 Hahaha! Yes! She's such a cuddle monster! <3 She's is quite a smart one indeed! She plays very safe to not lie on her back, but knows I will always crumble to her cute little self! <3
