I am so pleased the man was sent to prison, animal cruelty needs to be taken more seriously and a prison sentance is a good wake up call. I know 60 days doesnt sound a lot, but as was said before, I bet it had a profound infact on his life.
I read an article a few weeks back about a man appealing againsnt his sentance for being cruel to his dog - the dog was in a dreadful state - but the judge at the appeal said he found the man totally guilty and extended his sentance!!! I cant quite remember what the sentance was but I know the length of the pet ban went up to life.
Not to stick up for pet shops, but you cannot guarentee what the new owners of any animal sold are going to be. I have worked all all sides (rescue/pet shop/breeder etc) and it doesnt matter how many questions you ask, what extras you make them buy, you will still get people that will be cruel. They may ever so nice to your face and say all the right things, but when that pet is in their house, how do you know that it is being well looked after? Answer - you dont. Its the answer to that question that out me off breeding for a good few years, plus working in rescue put me off a bit too.
