Re: Photo Month Thread - March 2018
Today we're celebrating because the lovely little Juno turns 1 today and I couldn't let the day pass without making her the centre of attention:

Re: Photo Month Thread - March 2018
I managed to get Flickr to upload a couple of photos of the Metallica Piggies so today I thought I'd introduce them...

Frankie is the black and tan Abyssinian Guinea Pig and he lives with his best friend Benny, a White and Cream Dutch Guinea Pig. Both are now two and a half years old and have lived at Metallica Hamstery for nearly two years. They originally belonged to a workmate of mine but unfortunately he was not able to keep them so I offered to take them. In the summer months they live outside the kitchen window and it's nice to watch them playing as you're washing up. In the winter months, they live in the garage as an allergy means I am unable to have the hay and straw in the house.
They get on very well and if I take one of them out for grooming, I'll often find them calling out to each other so when I had to take Frankie to the vets recently, Benny had to come along too. They've entered two pet classes at the hamster shows and have come away with rosettes and a photo of Benny also won third prize at a photo competition at the Emley Show last year.

Re: Photo Month Thread - March 2018
Today I thought I'd show you The Hamster Room which is where the nine hamsters of Metallica live and where Matthew, Jack, Alex and Louise were born.
Prior to 2016, the hamster room was my study but after my course finished I decided it had better use as a room to keep the hamsters all together. To begin with the hamsters lived on the desk and a chest of draws but in March last year I moved things around, putting a new shelving unit in to allow me to have easier access to the cages.
This is the shelving unit as it is now:

The very top shelf has travel cages and some spare small carriers.
the next shelf down is Victoria and Juno's cages, then Jack and Matthew and then Louise and Alex. The very bottom shelf has a box with all the components of the food mix and treats in and a bag with some spare hammocks. Normally the hammocks are in a spare bin cage that gets used temporarily but until I can get another permanent bin meshed for Alex, the hammocks are in a bag.

This was the desk that I used whilst I was studying although it's now in a different place. I think I'd probably prefer another shelving unit but I've not got anywhere else for the desk and it was a rather expensive one for me to want to get rid of. Joshua lives in the Mini Duna under the shelves and the tank is home to Lord James. The tank James is living in at the moment has been used as a maternity tank and consequently it was the birthplace of The Nobrias, The Janas (RIP), and The Cormes.
The shelves above Joshua's cage have various supplies including the dog biscuits, whimzees chews, the hamsters favourite seeds and one of the food mixes. The pink and purple box on the top shelf is a toolbox but things like clips for the hammocks and cable ties are in there too.

Under the desk we have the spare toys (in the big yellow bin) and then the various draws of supplies stacked on top of that. Next to the yellow bin is the show pens. They've recentely started to be emptied after shows and then stored empty but at the moment they are ready for the next show as they'd been prepared for Chacombe but didn't get used.
Over the other side of the room we have the bookshelves and Cora's tank. It used to be home to Matthew and Cora lived in a bin but Matthew has a change of heart and wanted something smaller and Cora likes to bury things and a tank is better at keeping her substrate in the cage. As you can see, Cora has buried her wheel.
Above Cora's cage are the illustrations that were given to me by a workmate at Christmas.

Finally on the back of the door, is the rosettes. The rosette hanger was made by me after my original one had filled up. The two rosettes that are not on the main part of the rosette hanger are mine. One for judging at Real London and the other was given to me by the dwarf judge of Bradford Champs as a souvenir. The medal beolongs to Lord James and was won when he won BIS in Cardiff in 2016.

A very well organised hamster room - I'm impressed! How do you keep it tidy lol. I start out tidy but it doesn't last long.
