hamster ro the vet in the snow!
Hi guys, I have to take tooms to the vet 15 mins away by foot or bus today but here in the UK it's covered in snow. I was just wondering if people thought this was going to be ok or what. I know many countries have q lot if snow, how do those hamsters do when out?

Make sure the case has a lot of deep substrate and tissue. If possible, wrap it up in a blanket to keep the wind out. You could also sit the case on a hot water bottle for a while before you leave.
Usually I'd also put a heat patch on the bottom of the case to ensure it stays warm, but not everyone has those at hand.

Re: hamster ro the vet in the snow!
I have to go to the vet in the snow & sub zero temperatures today too, I put plenty of substrate in the carrier, put the carrier on the radiator for a while before going out (before I put my ham in!!) to warm it through, then I put it into a large shopping bag with a semi warm heat pad (not fully heated as that's too much) in the bottom with a fleece blanket on top of that then put the carrier on top of all that, you could partially cover the top with a blanket too but make sure there's still plenty of ventilation.

Re: hamster ro the vet in the snow!
I have no heat pads sadly, but the radiator plan sounds good, his carrier is tiny and I'm going to extra pack in and blanket it hopefully this will be enough. We haven't had snow like this in the UK for years (were usually good at exaggerating Lol).
I hope your trip goes well Cypher

Re: hamster ro the vet in the snow!
Thank you, hope all goes well for you too.
If your carrier is tiny then just put it in a big bag with a blanket all around it & it should be ok.

Re: hamster ro the vet in the snow!
I am going to put My hamster carrier in a bag tomorrow with a bottle of hot/warm water next to or under the carrier tomorrow.
I have added extra substrate and nesting tissue from her cage, so it smells familiar.

Re: hamster ro the vet in the snow!
I wrapped him up (well his carrier) in a thick jumper and a crochet blanket that had been on a blanket, he buried him self and beside the stress of the vets I think he wa ok
