His colour could be a number of things, honestly the pictures are too dark and blurry to truly tell. The possible colours he could be:

~Really Washed Out Dove.
~Lilac Fawn
~Washed out Red-Eyed Lilac
~Champagne

Do you perhaps know what colour his littermates were? As that would help narrow it down. Unfortunately when it comes to hamsters, especially hybrids, unless the genetic background is known it's extremely difficult to Phenotype because so many are out of standard and their colours are washed out and not the colour they should be.

The only thing that he is for certain is pattern which is an out of standard Mottled.

So sorry about Artie
It sounds like he had an amazing life though.
Your new little guy is adorable
His colours sound really sweet as well and I guess that is the thing that makes him unique.

Cypher yes, I think you're right, it will come to me. Not sure Ember is the right name although I do really like it. Hopefully something will just suddenly 'fit'. Thanks so much.

Lilac Dreams, oh my gosh thank you so much for this information. If it's okay with you, if I can take some better pictures of him and post them, might that give you a better idea? I do totally understand that it may still be impossible still to be precise because it's difficult to tell their phenotype, I'm just really curious.

Assuming that his littermate was his sibling, which I imagine is the case, his littermate definitely had ginger in him. Perhaps flecks of black? My visual memory is pretty rubbish - I need to pop back to the shop anyway to get some more things for my little guy so I will check to see if he's still there.

Thanks! Yes Artie had a lovely life, he was a very happy hamster. I was honoured to look after him.

My new little guy is a beautiful colour - whatever it ends up being - and hopefully I can develop a tame relationship with him too, which would be really nice. He's currently an interesting combination of brave, curious, and very flighty and cautious. Which is exactly how I would imagine his personality would be in the wild. Hopefully he'll slowly learn I'm not someone to be afraid of.
