Then I let him run between my hands for a while and then I will put him back. I know i should be doing the proper taming methods, but he really doesn't like being put into a box and moving his whole cage to the bath has become a problem with my housemates :/ he'll take treats from me when offered, but wont currently take one off my hand... I think i might buy a playpen to tame him in my room, does anyone have any suggestions for one i could buy or a diy project?

I like DIY playpens, specifically this one. I like this mostly because it's super cheap and super easy to make and store. I made mine out of the packaging material of the IKEA Detolf cabinet. The biggest advantage of this one is that you can decide just how big you want it to be. Big as an entire room maybe?
Alternatively, I liked this one as well, It's a lot nicer to look at and is also much more durable, I guess, but I'm not sure if it's suitable for you to sit inside though during taming sessions..

Re: First time owner needing advice for Robo
A brush is not ideal for stroking a hamster. It is not biting the brush because it doesn't want to be stroked, it is doing that because it thinks that you are playing. Do not stroke the hamster if you are not confident yet because if you jump, the hamster will get frightened. Try stroking the robo using your middle and index finger, starting from his head and ending at his bottom, do this twice. Every two times that you stroke the hamster like that, give him a treat. E.g. A sunflower seed, yoghurt drop or nut. Carry on this process until he startes to trust you. If you jump and do not give your little buddy a treat, he will become more and more stressed because he will think that you don't like him. Remember-
Do not use the make up brush!
Not only will the hamster not become tame, but your brush will become dreaded! lol. I wish you the best for you and your hamster to get along. Do not feed him a lot of treats though as this can give them diabetes.

So whether it is a nibble to see if you're food, or an attack of the invading hand - you will probably find his behaviour is very different when not in his cage.
Could you set up a playpen/bin for taming him in maybe? I intend to do that - if I can actually find ours!

Personally, I feel that you should wait until your robo is awake naturally. I have 2 robos Peachy and Mango (Hence the username) and they both got used to my hand within the first 5 days of owning them. I would spend more time around your hammy and let then get used to your voice. At least 20 minutes a day (or 10, depending how much time you have a day). You would have to stay up late if they wake up late because most hamsters are nocturnal (sometimes you get oddballs that are awake during the day and sleep at night) Behavior may be different out of the cage because you are not invading their space or home. Hope this helped.

When I offer him treats he's more interested in my nails or my fingers, and wont take the treat, instead trying to climb up it to get my fingers. As a first time owner, I'm nervous of being bitten because i think it will knock my confidence with him. He doesn't seem stressed or angry, just really inquisitive. Yesterday he did eat a treat whilst sitting on my hand, but when i tried to repeat it he was more interested in my thumb... What am i doing wrong, how do i make him stop nibbling?? xx

Try to use a garden glove to pick him up. You may want to give him more time to settle in and get some toilet paper and rub it on your hand and put it in his cage. He will get used to your scent as hamsters have poor vision but excellent sense of smell.
