Re: Bonne Année à tout le monde!! - Hamster Month thread :)
Just been catching up with the last few days of this thread. Kiwi is beautiful and a gorgeous colour - love her eye rings. Myachick and Dumpling both look like very chilled out hamsters.
Wow! The weight chart recordings are very impressive and organised. Its so sweet how Myachick falls asleep in your hand. Sorry to hear that Myachick paw had a bit of inflammation from an old break - but I'm glad he is not in a any pain from the old fracture and that you have such an amazing vet available to you (that must be very comforting to know). Love the photo of him stretching - adorable!

Re: Bonne Année à tout le monde!! - Hamster Month thread :)
Thank you Souffle, cypher, SKB_Hamster, et merci Rads! Thank you for being concerned about Myachick, he is so lucky to be cared by so many kind people!
Myachick has been doing as well as normal days after clinic visit, besides getting a bit more tired and sleepy than before due to several hours of interference that night.
Here are the pictures of Myachick after waking up and being fed boiled chicken breasts. What a satisfied face:

Et Rads, tu peux prendre les videos sous la lumière brillante dans la chambre et puis tu prendre les screenshots des videos si tu trouves quelques moments satisfaisants. When I try to catch any movement of my hamsters, I use video recording first and I screenshots the good and clear moments if there's any. And BTW, you translated very well
I use this small tip to photograph someone who is running or jumping as well.
I have made Kiwi girl a second layer of housing with another same-size cabin and connected the two with hamster tubes. And now she is even more active and keeps digging beddings in new cage crazily.

Unfortunately, I discovered that Dumpling got a small shallow red wound(3mm x 0.5mm) on his left back neck and that he must have accidentally scratched himself while grooming since he has a few long and curved nails. Since the wound has become hard, I will just leave it to recover by itself for now. If ever it got worsen, should I use saline water to clean it by Q-tips?

They all have such lovely faces, adorable photos of all of them
Sorry to hear Dumpling has a small wound, good that it's healing up ok though, you can use saline on wounds if there's a risk of infection but mostly any small cuts or scratches that aren't serious enough to need a vet check will heal on their own.

Re: Bonne Année à tout le monde!! - Hamster Month thread :)
I hope that you had an amazing Christmas holiday and your photo of Montreal's amazing New Year's Eve fireworks is quite impressive. Wishing you, your family, and your hamily a magnificent 2018.
I'm catching up on several days of this wonderful thread. I totally love your three precious hams, SunnyOy. They are all so extremely gorgeous, full of such charming personality, and as cute as can be. I adore them and love all their great photos and videos; you definitely captured some amazing, endearing pics of your precious trio. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that Myachick's inflammation from his old fracture continues to heal well and he continues it continues to be pain-free. I will also be hoping that Dumpling's wound on the back of his neck heals completely and quickly, too. Cuddles to your ham-cuties!

Re: Bonne Année à tout le monde!! - Hamster Month thread :)
I have found a small trick to make hamsters to wake up earlier and more active in the night. (although I regret doing that already...)
I turned the light off and close up the curtains where my hamsters sleep during the daytime, which means it turned out to be almost completely dark till 10pm I get back home. In this case, all of my hamsters wake up when I get back and their ears are straight up already. It seems to me that they have already got up for at least half an hour.
The next few hours they are much more active and moving around happily with a strong eager to get out of cages to play. That leads to a serious issue, which is that they wanted to get out of the cages so much that they try to bite cages to catch my attention. I had to wake up several times to get them out, simply wanted to satisfy their "requests".
This symptom applies particularly to Myachick, who used to be extremely lazy and now acts as if he was only 3 months old:

Such adorable photos! He has such an expressive & sweet face
It's lovely that you get to see more of them now but it might be worth noting that hams do have body clocks with natural cycles just as we do, their bodies respond to daylight & changes in day length throughout the year so it's not ideal for them to be in a darkened room during the day.

Re: Bonne Année à tout le monde!! - Hamster Month thread :)
Hey dreamtree1234, nice to hear back from you! Thank you for your wish, they are doing well recently, except Dumpling scratched another wound next to the old one with his curved nails. I had no choice but to force myself to cut his nails. However, I only managed to cut one rear paw...
Hi cypher, what you said makes total sense since I do not think it is a good idea to manually adjust their clock and make them behave abnormally. I will try to do as much as I could to let lights get in during daytime.
Used-to-be lazy and sleepy Myachick:

Re: Bonne Année à tout le monde!! - Hamster Month thread :)
Aww, all the pics are just TOO adorable! What cuteness and charm - I love it and I love them! I agree with Cypher about their internal clocks and not having them in a darkened room during typical daylight hours if possible. I think a slight tweaking of their waking up schedule by a half an hour should be fine. The rattling of the food bag or talking to your ham tends to work well as far as Eros is concerned so it might be worth a try with your trio, too. That way their schedule isn't drastically changed, but you still have more of an opportunity to play with them, too. I'm glad that the nail trimming went well with one paw. Hopefully, you will have a chance to trim the other three before Dumpling manages to scratch himself again. I will be wishing you the very best of luck as I understand it can be quite concerning to have to do it. Would using a nail file work just as well?
