Re: 31 Days of October
I'm catching up on four days of your amazing thread, SKB. Aww, what a touching and moving post about your brother's sweet Papa Smurf. He was such a cutie pie, and I absolutely love the name Papa Smurf, too. I'm a huge fan of the Smurfs. Although you didn't have Papa Smurf for very long, I know that he must have had such an amazing life at the end surrounded by so much love and care from you and your family. It was so wonderful that you were able to persuade your mum to let your brother adopt him so he could finally be treasured the way he was meant to be and you were all able to create so many precious memories with him as well. My favorite picture of him is the one on top with him in his food bowl.
It is so great that you have the opportunity to be a conservationist volunteer; the work sounds so extremely rewarding and tons of fun, too. You have such a wonderful, giving heart to want to always make such a difference in the world by actively helping to save wildlife. Thank you for all that you are doing.
I also love seeing all the beautiful pictures of the butterflies, bees, birds, and flowers that thrive in your gorgeous garden sanctuary. It sounds truly special. I'm so happy that the Red Admiral Butterfly decided to put on such a lovely aerial show for you. I love your description of the bees wearing their yellow welly boots, lol. I will always be reminded of it when I see them covered in pollen now. I especially love seeing the truly lovely photos of the green woodpecker. What a joy it must be that you were able to capture it on camera! I wish that they were native to the U.S., too. I have never seen one so thanks for sharing it with us. The flowers are all stunning. The macro photo of the sunflower and the different stages of opening of the chrysanthemum flower are breathtakingly gorgeous.
Great photos of the stunning birds at the local bird park. How lovely that you have a local bird park to visit as I always enjoy going to the aviary section of the zoo. What a spectacular array of different types of birds. I love them all, but my favorite pic is the one of the two owls nicely camouflaged with the background. I just love their expressions, lol.

Re: 31 Days of October
Thank you …
… cypher, although today my chrysanthemums look a bit wind swept due to the heavy rain and strong winds we had last night. There was such an amazing array of birds so many of which I have never seen before, the owls were very cute.
… dreamtree1234, Papa Smurf did leave us with very special memories. It is so rewarding knowing that the work that what we do as volunteers is really helping the wildlife out and it also so wonderful hearing the birds singing whilst working. I did really enjoy watching the butterfly flying around – at first I thought it was going to fly away and I would have missed such an amazing photo opportunity but it was such a relief when it landed again so I could photograph it. Pleased that you liked seeing the green woodpecker – they are such beautiful birds and so lovely to watch – it a shame you don’t get them in the US but from visiting the states you have your very own beautiful birds to! I really love photographing flowers especially using the macro setting on my camera – I also learnt a lot about the feature of my camera whilst taking photos of flowers that I also use when doing photoshoots with Pumpkin to capture all of her beauty to. The bird park was very lovely – what I love about birds is their bright vibrant colourful feathers as well as the beautiful songs. I was so lucky that the owls decided to look at the camera at the same time as my other photo I took of them they were both looking in opposite directions.

20th – Safari Park
Today, I thought I would share a few photos I took last year when I visited a safari park whilst on holiday. It was a lovely day out although a very hot day – it was lovely walking around and seeing the animals – it was so nice to see them house in fairly large enclosures with plenty of enrichment.
It was so lovely watching the gorillas, especially the little baby who was quite lively and naughty – and was also good at posing for all the visitors too. However my favourite animal at this safari park had to be the adorable spiny mice (2nd collage top left) they were so very cute and were so wonderful to watch in their enclosure.

Those are great photos! Very clear and sharp. I especially like the Zebra one - the light is quite special. Which safari park was it?

Wow, what gorgeous photos of your trip to the safari park! I love all of them especially the pic of the pair of zebras. The sunlight captures their beauty and gracefulness so perfectly. The spiny mouse is truly adorable, and the gorilla baby sounds like a joy.

Re: 31 Days of October
Lovely pics. I think I would get a fright too if they flew towards me lol.
The owls are so camouflaged in that pic, they are blending in very well with their surroundings. They must have been taking advice from Pumpkin I think
The top left one looks like he is smiling

21st – Lavender and The Pumpkin
One year my dad grew some giant Pumpkins on his allotment for Halloween, they didn’t grow as big as we initially expected however we did have 2 fairly large Pumpkins which if they were any bigger we wouldn’t have been able to lift them into the car to bring home. My parents decided to store one of the large pumpkins outside our guinea-pig playhouse and I thought I would make a perfect prop for a photoshoot with Lavender. Just to note Lavender was a fairly large guinea-pig.

Re: 31 Days of October
Oh wow that is a big pumpkin and Lavendar looks so tiny sitting next to it
Your Dad's allotment sounds great, it must be so nice to be able to spoil all your past pets and Pumpkin with the fruit and veg from it
