Default Short and long haired...

I am going to buy a hamster next week and i am keen on buying a long haired syrian hamster. As a beginner i dont know to identify between a short haired and a long haired one as they would look nearly alike when they are young.
Can u guyz pls say how to identify them.

Hi, I didn't want to just read and run as that's rude. Sadly, I don't know the answer to your question, but perhaps where you are getting your hamster from should know whether it is long or short haired so ask them? Have you Googled for tips too, maybe, as there could be photos/images to assist you online. Good luck!

Male hamsters tend to grow longer hair (the long hakred hamsters) than the female long haired hamsters.

My Arun was very fluffy even as a youngster.

If you are reasonably near a breeder they can help or perhaps you could get to a hamster show?

Sometimes long haired hams have some sparse very long tufts like my Cotton. Look at his pictures on the Daisy and Cotton thread. Most of his fur is shorter than than the superfluffs that you see, but it is like female long haired fur. It is noticeably fluffier than short fur.
