Question Should I move his cage?

Hi everyone how are you all today, I hope everyone's doing better than I am since I'm sick at the moment.

Bambi is doing really good - he's not been as active lately but he seems fine so I'm not worried. He'll be turning one sometime this month which is exciting my family thinks I'm crazy for making him some treats as a present but oh well!

Bambs is currently in the hallway near the back door I've been thinking about moving him into the spear bedroom since we don't have a carpet down in the hall so it gets a little cold at night. However the radiator in the bedroom doesn't work so I don't know if it would be worth moving him there... I don't know what to do my mum thinks we should leave him in the hall but I just don't want him to be cold.

Sorry to hear you're sick. Take care. It can get cold at night in winter, wherever the cage is. I would look at where it might be easier to have a little heater on a timer that comes on for a few hours during the night. It might be easier to do that in the bedroom than a hallway. On the other hand it means you'd have a nice cosy hallway when you get up in the morning!

Moving the cage to a new location can really stress them for quite a while. If it's necessary then it needs doing sometimes, but shouldn't be done very often. Everything smells different and they are really aware of the change, even if nothing changes inside the cage.

We have a little oil filled radiator and have that on overnight - it has a built in timer although we tend to just leave it on the lowest setting all night. But it depends how cold and draughty your house is. A modern insulated house, the room might get too warm with a heater on at night, even on low. Ours is a draughty old house. Our hammy definitely appreciated it and if I came down in the night he was basking luxuriously in his sputnik lol. Rather than huddling in his nest to keep warm. Is there space to put a small heater in the hall? And a plug nearby? If not then it might be best to move him to the bedroom - the room should be less draughty. You'd still need some kind of heat in there in winter.

I've used the oil filled radiators like Serendipity mentioned to keep the hams warm at night if the room gets too cold & they are very effective as well as being economical so definitely worth considering.
I would imagine you might have less fluctuations in temp in the spare bedroom if you can warm it up with a small radiator as the heat would be more contained & I wouldn't think that moving the cage would stress him too much if he's going into an empty room.
It is important to know what the temp is rather than just guessing so you know if you need extra heat or not so do check it.

That's a good idea - you can get cheap room thermometers on Amazon. Sounds like the bedroom would be the best option - probably cheaper on heating as well.
