We have tried cardboard tubes, cardboard treat boxes, egg box with holes and substrate in it.
She likes tunnels, so the tubes where accepted right away.
The boxes were a different story.. she likes them, but she can't seem to figure them out. She doesn't bite Them, which is kind of the point, she just kind of pushed it around.
The egg box she just got today, but she doesn't seem til interested so far.
Common for all three; she still bites her water bowl

On another topic, we have decided to try Romeo on pure paper bedding, to see if han help his hairloss. So far he REALLY likes it

Sorry I have been away for a while. I feel like time seems to just disappear in to thin air lately.
All three hamsters are doing great. Romeo has gotten All his hair back after we switched to paper and tiki has finally got a waterbottle that seems to work for her. It has taken forever. Zelda however, has started showing signs of aging. She has cataract in both eyes and is pretty much blind, but she is adjusting really well and shows no other major signs of aging.
I'll get some videos up soon.

For right now I just really need to get something off my chest and hopefully some advice. Aggie is not coping well with Zeldas aging. He already has a severe depression, which was the reason we got Zelda in the first place. It was probably the best decision we ever made, but it also means that he has a very close bond with her. He always stubbornly proclaims that Zelda will live to be 60 years old and with the obvious signs of aging he is really starting to get scared we won't have her for long. He is having nightmares of finding her cold and not moving in her nest.
I'm worried about him.
I guess what I'm hoping for is some advice on how to best prepare him to hopefully avoid an even deeper depression.
That was a lot of reading. Sorry for the extremely long and sad post

So pleased Romeo's hair has grown back, that Tiki has a workable water bottle.
I'm sorry to that Zelda's not too good.
As for advice for Aggie and dealing with severe depression and Zelda, it's best to be honest with him. I too suffer from severe depression and when any of my hams are showing signs of aging and ill health, I ensure I make the Ham as comfortable as possible, alter the cage to make it easier and cherish every single day.
Being honest with Aggie will be extremely hard, but getting him involved in the extra care will ensure his help, care and love is much appreciated.
Involve him with everything.
Big Hugs to you and Aggie. xx

I'm so glad that Romeo's hair has grown back fine and Tiki's water bottle is working well, too. I am very sorry to hear that darling Zelda is showing the signs of old age. I know that it is extremely hard to watch one so beloved decline from age and illness. Huge hugs to you and Aggie. I agree with what Thin Lizzy said concerning Aggie's depression and fears dealing with the sadly inevitable passing one day of his dear Zelda. Everyone deals with the loss of a loved one in their own unique way, but I truly believe that always being honest and preparing a child for it is the best way possible. I would just let Aggie know that although we always want our hammies to live forever, hamsters unfortunately have a very short lifespan. However, in that time, we can cherish every single moment with them and build the strongest bonds possible showing our love and commitment to them always. Let him know that it isn't the length of time that a loved one lives but the quality of that life that truly counts in the end. I would have him actively help care for his elderly Zelda and make all the memories that he can with her. Tell him that when you love someone so much, they are always with you in your heart because a loving bond like that can never be broken even by death. It might be helpful to let him know that there is a special place known as the Rainbow Bridge for all our pets to go when they pass, and there they will regain their strength and health and have lots of great adventures with all the others who have passed before them. I would also try to create a photo album of all the special moments with Addie and Zelda, make a huggable pillow with Zelda's picture on it for Addie to snuggle with in his time of sorrow or fear, or even create a lovely garden to visit and feel closer to Zelda when the time comes to make it her final resting place. I am SO, SOOOO sorry that this is happening. Please know that we are here for you and your family. I will be keeping you, Addie, and Zelda in my thoughts and prayers and will be hoping that there will still be more happy memories to cherish with each other. When the time comes for Zelda to pass, I will be hoping with all of my heart that it is as peaceful as possible and Addie will find peace in remembering the wonderful life that he gave to darling Zelda. HUGE hugs to you and Addie. Cuddles to sweet Zelda, too.
