Default Tank transportation

I have a petco about a 30 minute walk away from me, and I want to get a 40 gallon tank from there, but my family doesn't have a car. I don't want to go on the bus as I don't want weird looks, but I heard the tanks heavy? Please give me tips on this for when we will buy it.

If you can't have a heavy enclosure,I'd go with a bin cage instead. This would actually be relatively easy to carry(as bins are far lighter).Plus, you'd get the added benefit of a cage that if modified properly can be expanded if your hamster shows signs that the cage isn't large enough(like pacing, bar chewing, leaping, corner digging and chewing, etc that are obsessive behaviors not eliminated by a settling period or other forms of cage modification).

Keep in mind that even a square meter bin setup is cheaper than a 40 gallon tank. While the 40 gallon when on sale may seem like a great deal,it really isn't Considering you'd only have to spend around $32 on three bins(2 80 cm x 50 cm,1 60 cm x 40 cm)and then the minimal cost of zip ties, wire cutters, and half inch mesh(not vinyl coated)which doesn't exactly disappear once the bin setup is made,it's a very good investment! It may not look perfect, but it gets the job done

If you do decide to go with a tank and can't find someone to give you a lift or help you, I suggest a wagon. I have this old heavy plastic wagon from when I was a kid and we have used it to lug around heavy furniture and even a 29 gallon tank over the years. Most wagons will probably work, tho I don't know how a canvas wagon would deal with the weight. You'll need an old blanket to wrap around the tank to protect it from getting scratched and then bungee cords or rope to secure the tank to the wagon. And then take it slow, don't go too fast, keep an eye on it just in case it starts to tip or fall, and be very careful going over any kind of height difference in the road/sidewalk as those can cause the tank to shift and shifting could cause a fall.

It's really hard to find a cheap enough, yet large enough bin to make a bin cage. I would love to get this, but nobody can really give us a lift. I just was wondering if there is ANY way life maybe getting one of those "granny" carts if you know what I mean? Any more help will be appreciated!

Are there any taxi firms near you that you could book to pick you up from the pet store? They'd probably be able to give you a quote and as it doesn't sound many miles from you, hopefully wouldn't be too expensive. I'd tell them that you will be transporting a tank so they know why they are picking you up there and be prepared for it. I have a tank and it is very heavy.

I would like a 40 gal plexiglass tank in here but it won't fit in my car, plus you need 2 people to carry it. I can't imagine how heavy a glass 40 gal would be? I'd suggest making a large bin cage if you don't have somebody with an SUV or a truck. I don't know if the tank would fit in a taxi cab trunk?
