General Questions about getting my new hamster.

Hi!!! My parents are considering letting my sister and I get a hamster soon. So, I was wondering when w will go and get it at the pet shop, how do I scruff the hamster safely so I can make sure it's not a sick one? Also, my sister and I will be sharing it and we're unsure if we should tame it at the same time or have one tame our Syrian first, then the other tame it afterward. We will have plenty of toys and chews as well as a 12 inch wheel and a 40 gallon tank for it. So we've done our research and just have these questions left.

Don't try to scruff a hamster in the pet shop, you can go by appearance really as to whether they are healthy or not although you can never be totally sure, the staff will usually get a hamster out for you to handle if you want to have a good look.

You could tame the ham at the same time as your sister, as long as you go slowly & don't rush things, just interact gently with your ham it should be fine, if taming seems very slow then maybe switch to just one of you interacting until your ham becomes more confident, some tame easier & quicker than others so you won't really know what's best until you begin to get to know yours.
Both you & your sister could do the tissue trick (putting a sheet of plain white toilet tissue up your sleeve for a few hours then shredding it & putting it into the cage) every day for a while so it can get used to both your scents that way.
