Re: 31 days of August
Wonderful photo of the woodpeckers - so lovely to see dad feeding the baby. I also have woodpeckers who like to visit my garden and feed throughout the day - I also had a little baby to. I found the woodpecker baby was more patient at waiting for food that all the other baby birds in the garden!
Also amazing photos of the linnet, nuthatch and blue tits to!

Re: 31 days of August
Those woodpeckers are beautiful, what a lovely moment to catch with the lens.
It's exciting that you get marsh fritillary in your area, they can't fly very far so are restricted to islands of large patches of devils bit scabious. Don't know if you know this already, but the little black caterpillars hatch out in a distinctive silk tent on the plant. If you see this please report it. And if they're on your lawn don't mow it please!

Re: 31 days of August
No worries Ruth, I don't even have a lawn mower, strimmer or anything like that! I don't really have a lawn just a patch of rough grass & weeds (I like weeds) that I cut back by hand a few times a year to maximise food for insects & birds.
I used to see the caterpillars marching across the grass quite a lot but not for a couple of years now but there could still be some there out of sight.
AP thanks, we do have some very colourful & beautiful birds here, so worth taking the time to watch out for them
SKB thank you, I can't say I've seen a patient baby woodpecker, most of the ones here seem to just zoom about the place leaving the dad looking somewhat bemused when he goes to feed them, they really are so funny to watch!

Re: 31 days of August
I do like woodpeckers they always look so magnificent. The pictures of dad with baby are so sweet. I don't get many birds in my garden as we don't really have plants but my parents feed the birds and its always really relaxing to watch them on the feeders when I'm visiting
We did have a family of wagtails in our garden once, I think they were enjoying the little spiders they were finding between the stones. I used to sit and watch them for ages. The chicks were about twice the size of their parents as they were so fluffy and puffed up

Re: 31 days of August
Thanks BP & ff
BP baby that must have been so lovely to have the baby wagtails in your garden, I've only had them in mine just the once too & they are the funniest cutest little things!
Back to hams & today it's Whispers turn.
She only had a short life but it was a very special one so I'd like to share some of my favourite memories of her.

Re: 31 days of August
Whisper had a very endearing face - I first noticed that in her HOM entry for stuffed pouches, and that first photo shows it well too. There is something about those big eyes and ears. Her life might have been short, but I am sure you made it very special.
Love that photo of Tinwe with the sunflower seed. Great “action shot”.

Re: 31 days of August
Whisper looks so tiny, such a poppet.
I like the sound of your garden, cypher. Just goes to show that you get more wildlife if you ditch the neatly manicured lawns.
