Scent
As strange as it sounds, I love the smell of my hamster
She smells faintly sweet and (call me crazy) a tiny bit of sesame!
Do you think this is the scent she is giving off from her scent glands?
Her urine isn't very strong unless I get up close to her sandbath after she has just done a wee and then it just smells of ammonia. Not the sweet sesame I can smell on her when I'm handling her.
Anyone else like the smell of their hammy?

Re: Scent
I've never noticed Khalis normal smell to be honest. But I can certainly smell it when she is in heat. It smells like burnt rubber or plastic and usually gives me a headache! Haha. Ive gotten pretty good at recognising the signs when she is coming into heat, so I can usually stuff my nose with tissues haha. Sometimes she suprises me though. I have a habbit of giving her booty kisses ( that sounds really odd, but its so cute) and sometimes I get more than I bargained for.
The wierd thing is that she doesnt smell bad every 4 days. Its more like every 1-2 weeks that she gets her plastic stench

Re: Scent
Wow, that's so interesting
I also had no idea female hammies are in heat every 4 days!
Lil consistently has the sweet sesame scent I mentioned.

Re: Scent
I love the smell of my hammy too - it's sort of warm and comforting! I think my previous hamster, Smokey, smelled stronger than Marty - both females - but yeah I do find it a very nice smell.

Re: Scent
For me it's a bit like the smell of a new born baby and you can't get enough of smelling them!
Luckily Lil doesn't seem to mind my closely hovering nostrils

Re: Scent
All of my hams have smelled really different. Some have smelled like burnt plastic, some like chicken , some like pee, and others don't really have any notable smell. I think it's normal for scents to vary amongst them. I also think diet and bedding has a lot to do with it

Re: Scent
How very interesting! Such a variety of very specific smells
A few people have asked me if Lil has 'thats hamster smell'. I have responded with a giggle and asked them to explain themselves, which they haven't seemed to be able to do
