Default sand bath | how often should the sand be replaced?

hi!

i have two sand baths, one in each cage for my robos. somehow, i'm finding that i'm replacing it every single day, in both cages. whenever i go to change their food and water (i do so daily) i'm changing their whole sand bath too, because my boys are burrowing and kicking sawdust into it. when there is sawdust and food and other things (like if they wee in there, which they have done before) they will no longer roll in it, just sit in it and wash themselves by other means. is this normal? is there a way to clean it more efficiently without throwing a big tub full of sand out each time? it's costing me quite a bit to continuously buy tubs/bags of sand. i've heard of shaking it to get the big pieces out, but smaller things like bits of food don't always rise to the top (¤﹏¤)!!

Get a sieve (y'know, one for food) and use it to sift out the bits. Hold sieve over a bag/container of some kind, tip sand through sieve, put sieved sand back into sand bath. It should also catch any pee clumps.

Even without doing the above, I replace my hamsters' sand once a week, max (unless they're ill), just removing any of the larger bits of fitch for my robo and leaving food/poop, 'cause it doesn't do any harm. I also have a few of those little spades with the lines cut out (ones that come with those rather poor 'hamster potties') to help keep the sand tidy during the week.

I replace Stephano's sand every week or two and and sieve bedding, food, etc out of it as needed (I just use a normal kitchen seive). I also spot clean if there's any clumps of pee
