Hamster food mixing of Higgins and Mazzuri
Hi I have 2 dwarf hamsters and I was wondering how I could make a good mix with Higgins Sunburst and Mazzuri mouse and rat blocks and mealworms. How much would I have to put in of each in the container? And I don't have access really to Burgess dwarf hamster food.

Re: Hamster food mixing of Higgins and Mazzuri
At a very quick calculation about half & half would give you approximately the right amount of the major nutrients, it would take a while to work it out accurately though so that's a very rough guide.
Always do it by weight not volume.
Doing that you wouldn't really need mealworms for extra protein but you could still give a few a week, to calculate everything including the mealworms would take a lot more calculating than I just did!
Hekomi would probably be the best person to ask as she has more experience mixing US ham foods.

Re: Hamster food mixing of Higgins and Mazzuri
The proper proportions for Higgins and mazuri is a 60:40 mix. (60 being Higgins and 40 being mazuri). Like cypher said, everything should be mixed by weight, not volume

Re: Hamster food mixing of Higgins and Mazzuri
I use kitchen scales too, digital scales are generally a bit more accurate if you're only weighing small amounts.
You don't necessarily have to do that each time you feed your ham, you could mix a batch of the two & put it in an airtight plastic box.

Re: Hamster food mixing of Higgins and Mazzuri
You can if you'd really like, but you'll need to weigh those out too and calculate the GA. It would be a bit of a pain. It would be better just to supplement with the oats/flax seeds once or twice a week instead
