What species of dwarf hamsters are you talking about?

Which dwarf species are you interested in?

Winter whites never have red eyes. They are found in normal, sapphire, pearl and marbled/merle.
Chinese are found in normal, dominant spot and black-eyed white.
Roborovski are found in normal, pied and husky (as recognised mutations by the NHC). There have also been white and headspot robos, as well as red-eyed ones.
Campbells are found in normal, argente, albino, black, chocolate, blue fawn, beige, champagne, opal, platinum and mottled (I may have missed a couple!)

Hybrids have no official colours. I tend to call them brown, orange etc They have been referred to as mushroom, mandarin, lemon etc.

The NHC handbook has a full list of the mutations which are recognised as pure in the different species as well as descriptions for the standard colours/patterns. There are some pictures on the MHC website.

Are hamsters in pet stores hybrids or the ones you listed?I am looking for a winter white or the brown one with a black stripe. I hope this gives you you an idea of what I want. What about pet smart hamsters?

All campbells/winter white hamsters you see in pet shops will be hybrids (a mixture of both). You would only be able to get a pure campbells or winter white from a good breeder.

I expect you would be able to find a hybrid with the normal colouring (brown with the black stripe) from the pet shop. I see that colour often but I am in the UK and I assume you're in the US as you talk about pet smart

If you are buying from a pet shop make sure that the conditions they are being kept in are good. Clean with easy access to food and water. Also that the males and females are separate!

Make sure the eyes are clear and shiny and no discharge from eyes/ears/nose. Fur should be in good condition, clean with no open wounds or matted areas.

What size hamster wheel should I get. She's still rather small, but seems healthy as a horse. She eats well wants to be loved on asks to be picked up. She climbs her cage.falls not very often but jumps down only chef bars for 24 hours then stopped. Any ideas are welcomed thank you.

I think the correct size of wheel for a Syrian would be 12 inches. She might not climb the bars as much once she's settled as she'll be busy exploring her new home. Just make sure you have plenty of substrate and nothing hard that she could fall on to and hurt herself.
