Product query
I was browsing Wilkos website and came across this item that is intended for birds but I wonder what a hammy would make of it..
http://www.wilko.com/small-pet-food+treats/rosewood-foraging-pineapple-large/invt/0453101#fullDesc"
What do you guys think?
Are the materials hamster friendly?
Do you think they would enjoy it?
Thanks in advance

Re: Product query
I cannot consider it safe as it has banana leaf which is known to cause digestion issues in many animals. It could result in a blockage among other problems,so it would be best to just avoid that product. However,it could be inspiration for a DIY project made entirely out of safe and more digestible materials!

Re: Product query
The product certainly looks entertaining. I'm not really sure about whether the materials are safe for hamsters or not, but I think it would be a bit difficult for the hamster to find the food inside it as the holes may not be wide enough and those sharp edges could be a bit dangerous. You might also want to take into considerations the length of the rope the 'pineapple' is hanging from especially if your cage has a high roof.

Re: Product query
You could make the majority of the toy with cardboard pieces and tie it using an all natural string(sisal, hemp, jute,or raffia although raffia isn't too sturdy so don't rely on it to keep things together for too long!).
You can make dyes from hamster safe fruit too if you want, but you could also tie on some high quality treats(my personal favorite for these sort of projects would be the yellow Gertie Guinea Pig biscuit pieces). You could poke certain things through holes in cardboard, like oat spray pieces or millet spray pieces.
