Default Learning how to identify Syrian colors

Hello all, I've been keeping my endeavors quiet for a while, but as I'm starting to get closer to being ready, I need some help from this community. I will be breeding Syrian hamsters, and I need to learn my colors and how to identify them! Some of the older members may remember Hekomi's thread on this, and I have decided to create my own for practice. Just as with that thread, I'd like for you guys to share pics of your Syrians, and I will try my best to identify colors, patterns, fur types, etc. If any experienced breeders notice mistakes or errors, please correct me and point out where I've gone wrong- I want to learn as much as is possible! I'm still new so I am definitely going to make some, if not many, mistakes with this, but I will be trying my very best. Thank you all so much

Ooh, I had no idea you wanted to become a breeder! It's my dream to become either a Syrian or a robo breeder one day, probably after I go to college. It just fascinates me.

I was just researching Syrian colors and cost types just to familiarize myself with them and mainly because I just like to research. I found a good website-

There's probably a lot of websites out there I just found this one to be very useful.

It's always been a dream of mine as well That's why I've finally gotten into it now that I'm old enough and have a good amount of education behind me. It takes a lot of research, and it's pretty complex, but I've had a lot of help from the breeders all around me- especially SBH. I have seen that website and it's been very helpful to me, now I just need to get real life examples and see how much I've learned from it. Hopefully you'll learn something for your future endeavors as well

Drago, that is awesome! I just know you are going to be an amazing breeder, and I'm excited for you. Also jealous - I'd love to breed some day. Shame you're across the pond as that makes any chance of me ever having a Drago baby very remote any idea what name you will breed under?

Would love to help - especially as it gives me an excuse to post cute hamster photos. Here are all the hamsters I've owned. Will be interesting to see if my inexpert guesses about their colour were correct!

Alfie (and before you ask, YES he was definitely boy - he had VERY big "you know what's". Just had short fur for a long haired male)

Kevin:

Pip:

Jordy:

Scamp:

Sooty:

Mushu (tricky one for colour, eh? Nobody ever could pin it down. Looked to be a different one in every photo!)

Quigley (have his breeder's confirmation of his colour, but thought it would be unfair not to include him!)

Great news Drago! That's so exciting.
I'm intrigued to know what you think Lil is. Let me know if you need a more specific picture i.e her eye in natural light, etc.

Look forward to hearing your opinion

FelicityAnn, unfortunately I cannot see little Esmeralda. I'm not sure why the photo isn't working, but if you got the chance, you could perhaps upload it again

AP, lots of hams! I'm going to give it my best shot...

Alfie- LH cream banded
Kevin- SH gold banded
Pip- this one is tough, I'm going to guess, a SH golden dom spot?
Jordy- SH cinnamon
Scamp- same as above
Sooty- SH sable?
Mushu- oh he is a tough one! I'm probably way off, but I'm going to guess, LH satin mink? I don't think this is correct, but I can't really determine anything either
Quigley- LH golden

Thank you so much for all the pics for practice!

BethandLil, I'll check out her thread to get a few photos, and I'll edit this post with my guess

Drago, I am so thrilled for you! It will be such an amazing thing indeed to have a loving, knowledgeable, and expert breeder here in the southern part of the U.S. I have always wanted to get a Syrian from a professional breeder so I would absolutely love to have one of your hammy babies in the future.

Here are a few of my Syrian hammies that I have been blessed to share my life with for you to practice your skill.

Lancelot (Please excuse the tube and arm, I had someone hold him for me so I could take a closeup, and he wasn't used to handling hammies.):

Yin - Male:

Sir Locksley:

Eros - Female (At the time of naming, I was misled into believing that she was a male.):

I surely hope that this helps.
