BethandLil
I'm going to guess a SH dove, but I'm not 100% sure, her color was a bit difficult to determine!

Vectis
Thank you for all the pics! I'm going to give it my very best shot, please correct any mistakes of mine

Lusi- SH rust?
Tristar lad- SH blue roan
Wyeside- SH chocolate tort
Oceana- LH dark gray
Pocahontas- SH black tort
Griff- SH cinnamon?

I really appreciate getting so many lovely hams to guess!

ETA- just saw your post dreamtree

Lancelot- SH black
Yin- SH black
Sir locksley- SH rust?
Eros- LH cinnamon banded?

Thank you
For the more experienced breeders/color experts, I seem to be having some difficulty (I think) with distinguishing rust, cinnamon, and goldens. I know rust has lighter cheek flashes and dark spots than a golden right? However, sometimes I can't tell if they're a golden, and occasionally they look light enough to be cinns. Any tips?

Lusi- SH rust? Yes! Technically a rust tort, but she never did have very good torty patches
Tristar lad- SH blue roan roan yes, but this is a hamster not a rat I would expect blue hamsters with Wh to give a white belly (like black does) rather than the roan patterning with Wh. Guess again on the colour - only certain ones in hamsters have roan patterning.
Wyeside- SH chocolate tort She has eye rings - guess again!
Oceana- LH dark gray yes!
Pocahontas- SH black tort yes! She was an RD carrier hence the loads of white under.
Griff- SH cinnamon? yes!

Look at the standards where they mention eye and ear colour as well as the colour of the ticking This should help you tell the 'orangey things' apart!

This is amazing, Drago! I have always been fascinated with the study of hamster fur types/colors/patterns. So excited to hear that you are planning on breeding hamsters. Can't wait for that thread in the "Breeding Hamster" category.

As Vectis said look at the standards. Usual giveaways are eye and ear colour as well as undercoat.
That said it can be very difficult when looking at poor examples of a particular colour or hamsters that are carrying other recessives that are influencing the colour shown in that individual.
Rust is not that common to be honest and often you are looking at a poor Golden or a Golden with cream and cinnamon in it's make up.
Photos are also harder to judge on as the hamster looks different in different lights and you cannot look at the undercoat and belly etc to help you.

WoW Drago! I could try to trick you with Brownie's photos (aka Blacky) but you already know all about that Sorry I can't help you with more pics.

This is a very interesting thread so I'm going to stay tuned.

I think it is amazing that you're going to take that big step. I can't wait to see your hamstery in action!

This is is lovely that you a researching into breeding. I have recently become interested in Syrian hamster colours (although I have no plan to become a breeder myself - as I would never be able to let any of the babies go!)

Here are some pictures of a my past Syrians and Pumpkin. I have shared a few photos of each of them so you can see them from different angles. I hope this helps you.

Sherbet, I was told it could possibly be one of two colours - as she has very little colouring and is white where her cheek flashes and crescents would have been.

______

From the little knowledge I have in Syrian colours - I don't think that AprilPearl's Jordy and Scamp were cinnamons - as cinnamons don't have black ears instead they are more a flesh brown in colour.
You might find these links usual for identifying golden, cinnamons and rust colourings (I find these really useful myself)

Golden
Cinnamon
Rust

Vectis alright, try number two

Tristar- how about sable roan? After a bit more research into roan coloration, I realized only cream based colors can be roan- i.e. the certain colors you mentioned
Wyeside- sable banded?

Souffle thank you for all the pics!

Ham 1- SH satin BEC
Ham 2- this one is tough, I was going to say choc dom spot, but then I thought I saw some other colors on her. My final guess is SH choc tort dom spot?
Ham 3- this one stumped me too, SH rust?
Ham 4- SH satin cinnamon
Ham 5- SH? BEC
Ham 6- LH BEC
Ham 7- Rex REC
Ham 8- LH cinnamon

That is very interesting how the type has changed. I need to study this type of thing as well!

FelicityAnn
Esmeralda- SH gold banded

Hamsterita
Thank you! I'm excited to start up as well. However, I've got a ways to go as you can probably see. I have tons of studying left, but I don't mind that

SKB

Cotton- This one really stumped me! SH yellow black? I'm really not sure on this one
Cookie- SH cinnamon broken banded
Toffee- This one was very difficult too. LH yellow banded?
Sherbet- SH Cinnamon dom spot? I know that there is a difference in appearance between homozygous and heterozygous dom spot, but I can't quite remember which makes it look a bit like this
Pumpkin- SH cinn satin

Thank you for the resources! I'm going to go study those and quiz myself. I will retry AP's first two later tonight

To those of you who know, please let me know how I did, and where I went wrong Thank you!
