Re: Meet Emoji!
Emoji's cage looks really nice & he's obviously loving it, it's great to hear how well he's come on now & his character really starting to show
I did laugh at his laundry basket antics
He looks so sweet in that second photo.

Awww he's just so lovely, his cage looks fantastic. Good to hear he's getting more confident and likes his treats lol!
I laughed at him leaping in to the laundry basket lol, I expect he was looking for more treats

Re: Meet Emoji!
I understand what you mean with feeling so much affection! I never expected to love my hammy as much as I do! I grew up surrounded by dogs and cats, but when we moved to the city I couldn't keep them in the apartment. Then during uni I also couldn't keep them in the dorms or the rented apartment. I spent more than ten years missing having a cat or a dog and then decided to get a hamster because it was my childhood dream and I wanted at least some kind of pet, and I was so surprised when it turned out to be such a lovable creature! Hamsters are more entertaining to watch than even cats and dogs, and they are so smart! I feel so much love for my hammy which I never really expected! I can't wait for saving enough money to get another one.

Re: Meet Emoji!
I hadn't seen Emoji since Monday, and he didn't eat his veg last night, so I was really worried. Always before when I didn't see him, I still saw signs of him having been out and about, but it didn't look like he'd been out at all, no food gone from his bowl, etc, and because Anya is sick, I was really worried. I had to search for awhile to find him. He has redone his extensive burrow network, so I had no idea where in the deep substrate he was hiding. At last I found him, and he was just fine. I sort of forced a quick health check on him, and when I turned him over, he screamed at me, this awful squeaking sound. He didn't seem hurt, just warning me he was gonna bite, so I returned him to his cage, and he immediately came back out onto my palm, wanting to explore. Phew! No hard feelings!

Re: Meet Emoji!
Aww Emoji is such a sweet little guy - minus the screaming of course. Jaska did that to ham-dad once when he disturbed him, was quite a noise for such a timid little guy.
Glad to hear Emoji was ok though and was brave enough to come and sit on your hand after his fright

Re: Meet Emoji!
Never heard a hamster scream before! Cheeky little boy - he was probably feeling a little undignified at being turned upside down! Glad he's fine though, and that he got over his little fright.

Re: Meet Emoji!
Well, apparently Emoji does hold a grudge! He has resumed hiding from me, though I know he is out and about in his cage when I'm not in the room. I can hear him moving around in his burrows, and he's eating his food, and drinking his water. I'm ok taking it slow with him again. I have my hands full--literally--with poor ill Anya right now anyway. He'll come back around, and in the meantime, he seems to be having fun in his cage, and he's healthy, so that's what matters.

Re: Meet Emoji!
Oh dear. Sorry that Emoji is still a bit shaken up. I guess what I meant is that hamsters don't hold grudges permanently! It may take a bit of time, but he will forget all about it eventually.

Re: Meet Emoji!
I wouldn't worry too much, it is a bit upsetting when this happens but they do sometimes go through stages like this as they settle in so just give him more time & I'm sure he'll be out & about looking for you & his treats again soon.

Re: Meet Emoji!
Emoji is gorgeous! I've really enjoyed reading through this thread and hearing/seeing about him, his antics and his wonderful set ups.
Here's to hoping that he comes around quickly following that health check!
