Moving out of state with hamster
Hey, I wasn't 100% sure where to put this topic, but my parents recently announced that we are going to be moving from Minnesota to Florida and I have some questions regarding my animals...
Would it be better to rehome my hamster and snake before we move, or would they be able to survive the 25-hour drive? Is there any way that I could ship them safely? I am extremely concerned about my 2-year-old winter white hamster as she is now blind and deaf and I feel that moving her could be quite risky :/ Any help is appreciated

Re: Moving out of state with hamster
Is there any way you could stop in between parts of the drive? If so,it would be possible to take her with you. You'd need to take the same precautions as with any bit of travel,of course with it being more difficult as it is a much longer trip.
As for the snake, they'll be fine as long as you keep them warm.Hand warming packs tend to work well for that(just make sure they're kept a safe distance away),and can generally be purchased easily from most gas stations and Walmart along with other stores if you need to get replacement packs at some point.
Shipping animals is definitely best avoided, and since it isn't necessary in this situation I wouldn't bother with it.

Re: Moving out of state with hamster
Have your parents said when you will be moving? If it's next week, then obviously it's an immediate concern, but if it's 6 months to a year, then there's (sadly) a fair chance that your ham will no longer be with you at that point in time.
If she is still around, then your chances of finding a home for a very elderly hamster are limited, unless a friend or relative is willing to look after it. From that point of view, I'd take the hamster with me - they don't seem to find car rides too stressful IMHO
