Default New additions from Houten!

Well, I got impatient and couldn't wait to share my new additions with you! As I've put photos of the Houten show itself in the photomonth thread I won't repeat them. Instead here are the photos of the little ones who have come to live at Vectis. In total I brought back 17 Chinese hamsters, 2 winter whites and 3 duprasi. 2 of the Chinese hamsters are going to other hamsteries so I won't introduce them here.

The Chineseys
These come from the Netherlands, Finland and Denmark, and from 7 different breeders in total. They're going to be a valuable addition to my breeding plans as they'll being some much-needed genetic diversity into my hamstery, and into Chinese hamsters in the UK in general.

This girl already has a name but I'm waiting for her pedigree to know what it is; in Europe the breeders name the hamsters not the owners

The Winter Whites
These two are from Holland and Denmark. Both come with pedigrees and are from show breeders which is important with winter whites and Campbells to ensure that they are not hybrids. I don't yet know the normal male's name, but can't wait to find out!

The Duprasis
And last but not least the three new duprasi. Both are from Dutch breeders, but different ones, and all of them are unrelated to each other.

The hammies have labels on their cages with their name, date of birth and breeder (or litter name if bred here). They do look subtly different though so it is possible to tell them apart These hammies had sticky labels on their carriers with what was in each carrier and who the breeder was so there could be no mix up during travel (and in case customs wanted to know - which they didn't!) I've popped stickers on their quarantine cages until I can print and laminate more cage labels.

I use naming themes which helps when choosing a name (unless they've already been named by their breeder, or by someone else in the case of Dobby the duprasi and Queenie the Syrian). The normal Chinese names come from the Discworld books, the BEW/dom spot Chinese names are Isle of Wight place names, the duprasi are named for stars or constellations and the winter white names are birds.

Such lovely little ones and from what I've heard from those who went, it sounds like it was a great day.

I'm so glad that we leave the naming to the owners here.
