Do I get this hamster I need help♥:/

Hi im going to get a hamster pretty soon and have ordered an ikea detolf and done plenty of resurch according to campbell hamsters. I have been planning on adopting one for a good 6 months but have recently come into a bit of an issue.
My next door neighbours have a chinese hamster in a small cage wich their daughter has lost interest in. Apparently he bites and is 1 and a half years old but.....after not having much socialisation it may be hard to turn around nothing I cant handel
But I have recently seen this adorable dwarf campbell (can be to shore) needing a loving home on an adoption website. As I have done so much resurch on the breed and have even planned out a diet plan for it im not sure what to do...
My family want me to take it but I think other wise as even the cage I orderd was based around that percific breed. A robo may also apply
Plz help im stuck on what to do

Both robos and chinese and campbell hamsters can live in a detolf. But other than that, go with your heart. It sounds like you are being forced in a situation to take the chinese. You should never, ever, ever, get a pet because of some one else's opinion. Personally, I would take the campbell, since you've done all the research for it.

I agree with JL, you've got to go with what your heart tells you. I personally would choose the chinesey as he's being neglected by being kept in a tiny cage with poor husbandry. However, this is just me so you will need to find which it is you have your heart set on. You may want to get the Russian since you have your heart set on him (if he's not from a breeder, the chances of him being a pure campbell is very unlikely)! Russians and Chinese hamsters are essentially the same care wise with both species being diabetes prone and fairly similar sized (though Chinese hamsters are much longer and slender and a Russian is stocky and short). A Russian will typically need a larger cage than a Chinese hamster as chineseys tend to be a bit more shy. However, this isn't to say a Chinese hamster should have a small cage as they can live in larger cages just fine granted you use your space wisely. All in all it's your decision so go with your gut! Welcome to Hamster Central! I read your post and that sounds like a tough choice. More than a week later, did you decide between one or the other? I don't know which one I would choose if I were in your shoes. Is the age known for the hamster at the adoption website? Considering that hamsters do not live long, that might also be a deciding factor.

Personally I would go for the Chinese, I'm not really biased either way as I love both species but I would imagine the Russian hybrid (you won't find a Campbell's up for adoption unless it's a good breeder looking for homes for a litter which is unlikely) stands a better chance of finding a new home as it's being advertised while the Chinese will probably continue to be neglected for the rest of his life.
Care isn't so very different really, diet is the same pretty much (diabetes prone species) so you shouldn't find it hard to adapt what you've already learnt.
