Default Welcome Tangerine and Key Lime!

I got a pair of robo boys! They are absolutely adorable and fun to watch. Their names are Key Lime and Tangerine. They are both regular agoutis I'm pretty sure. So here's how I ended up picking them at the pet shop.

The pet shop I settled on getting them from doesn't keep hamsters in stock, so you have to call and order them. After the pet shop screwed up the first order, I waited another week and finally they got a group of 6 robos in. I observed the group for about 15 minutes. All of them were either agouti or agouti carrying husky. I would guess they weren't more than 6 weeks old because they were all a lot smaller than a full grown robo. There was one white faced robo who was really aggressive to all of the other hamsters . There were two robos who kept fighting with each other. That left three hamsters to choose from. My heart set on the smallest little robo (Key Lime) who was very curious about me and wasn't at all afraid to come and sniff my hand. It was kind of hard to pick one of the two left but I decided on a hamster with a cute black dot on his forehead (Tangerine). After placing the pair in the cardboard pet carrier I observed them to see how they reacted with each other. I didn't see them fight once in the cage or in the carrier.

I brought the babies home and let them into their 40 gallon glass tank. Key Lime was quite the explorer! Tangerine found the piece of millet spray I put in the cage and went to town. He stuffed his cheeks full of millet and Key Lime soon joined him. Key Lime loves the deep paper substrate i put on the left half of the cage! He immediately went to work and soon he completed a whole tunneling system and a cozy burrow.

Key Lime is an adorable little guy. He is a very curious hamster and doesn't seem to be afraid of much. He loved exploring all of the nooks and crannies of his new cage! Tangerine seems to be more low-key. He isn't as much of an explorer as his brother and tends to be a little bit lazy. Of course I haven't had the boys for a full week yet so his personality may change. Both boys apparently love millet! One of them stuffed their pouches full of it and brought it to the burrow and shared it with the other one. So adorable Neither of them have shown any aggression towards each other and they are currently nestled up together in the burrow Key Lime made. I am sure that both are boys (I saw the um, testicles.) I will try to get better pictures sometime! Sorry for the long post btw XD
And if u have any questions about the cage decor or whatever just ask all of it is safe and the posicle stick house was glued together with elmer's school glue. And also I put in the water bottle, I hadn't finished the bottle stand before I took the pictures.

Congrats on Key Lime and Tangerine, you must be so excited! They're absolutely adorable too. I think what makes robos so darn cute is their insanely tiny size Their cage setup looks pretty good to me, but a more experienced dwarf owner may be a better judge. I wish you the best of luck with these two. Please keep us updated on how these lovely fellows are settling in!

Thank you drago yes I am so excited about them!
Key Lime came out to explore his cage this evening. He ran on one of the wheels, pouched some food, discovered the coconut hideaway and tried climbing through the window of the house (what a naughty little burglar ). He found the willow ball and decided it was a worthy opponent to tackle. He jumped on it, latching his claws onto it and biting it. But the scary willow ball rolled on top of poor Key Lime who was ashamed of being defeated.

Tangerine hasn't come out yet I don't think. He has spent his time sleeping, grooming and eating millet in the burrow. He definitely doesnt have much of the adventurous spirit his brother has.

Overall both hams seem to be doing just great and interacting with each other nicely. No fighting and they don't seem to have any food aggression issues I'll keep you updated on silly Key Lime's adventures :P

They are just so cute! What an adorable little pair Tangerine & Key Lime are, congrats

Your tank looks nice, one thing I would suggest though is putting more substrate in, it doesn't look very deep at all & robos do love to dig & burrow, I would go for at least 15cm.
I would keep an eye on the coconut as that is somewhere one could trap another if they do get a bit territorial & maybe add a few more safe hideouts, a couple of egg boxes with a hole cut in either end would work well, there is quite a lot of open space in there right now.

Ok cypher, I'll be sure to add more substrate I was definitely monitoring the coconut if they got territorial over it but so far I think only Key Lime knows it's there and I haven't seen the boys fight at all. But I'll be sure to take it out if fighting occurs. I'll also add some more hiding places. You can't really notice it very well but I did make an "underground" cardboard nesting box in the ocean section. I made sure it had two exits as well. Here , I'll include a picture of what you can see of the nest box. Sorry the lighting's kinda bad but the entrances are under the willow ball.

Thanks Lizzy I couldn't believe how tiny the boys were when I first saw them at the pet shop! I love the names as well, although my father thought it was weird to say "Key Lime"
