The invisible hamster :-)
Hi everyone,
I have a little winter white dwarf called Bernadette. She's 7 months and super sweet and tame.
My only complaint is that we don't see very much of her! She loves to burrow and so I've given her very deep substrate on one side of her cage which she burrows in and sleeps in.
My previous hamster - a Syrian - would pretty much consistently get up around 9 and stay up all night. Bernie may well be getting up in the night (her cage is in the lounge) but she doesn't always get up in the evenings. And if she does, it's just to eat and then she rushes back to bed.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to tempt her out more often? I know this may just be her personality - which is fine of course - but if there was a way to see her more, that would be wonderful
She's in a Billy hack and has various toys (incl a wheel) which I alternate every few weeks plus a sandbath.
Thanks everyone!
xxx

Re: The invisible hamster :-)
Do you have a playpen for her?
If they get into this kind of routine I think the best thing is to wait until she does wake & come out for some food unless she'll come out if you call to her & get her into a playpen or other safe area where you can interact with her & she can have more to explore.
It may just be her personality & that she's happy with everything in her cage & doesn't feel the need to come out.

Re: The invisible hamster :-)
I know the frustration, so the answer is to get another hamster & hope the new one is awake earlier! kidding
