Exclamation Advice for owning cat with a hamster?

So, I have a hamster (Vanilla Drop) and she is around 4 months. She is my first hamster. However, I also have a cat, he is aging a bit now. My cat doesn't seem to want to harm my hamster but is VERY curious and will often try to jump on top of the cage. My hamster doesn't seem to care, but I am not a hamster expert. Anywho, I don't know how to stop the attention? Any advice?

Thanks, FluffyHamsterButts.

Unfortunately, there's really not much you can do to get a cat to become uninterested in hamsters. It's just feline instinct to want to hunt (or at least watch) small furry creatures. Though it may not appear that Vanilla drop cares, it can be very stressful to have a predatory animal hanging around even if they're not harming them. Is there a way you can keep your cat out of the room? Perhaps closing the door or putting a gate in front? Keeping your cage in a high, out of reach place would help too! Best wishes

The cat just needs to stay in a separate area from the hamster. There is no other choice, unless you'd like to have a constantly stressed hamster that eventually will have a severely compromised immune system

Cats(well, the wild relatives if you must be specific, but they're the same species regardless)are natural predators of hamsters.I think a lot of people often forget that cats are obligate carnivores, who do not have the same human emotions regarding their prey. They can and will torture animals to death with no remorse, and that is their nature as horrible as it sounds.

As for keeping a cage up high, that's not a solution either when even overweight cats can jump as high as refrigerators and such.It really must be a completely separate room which cats are never allowed into, nothing else

Hello, I have moved my hamsters cage and now my cat can't reach her, while he can jump up, he is afraid of most things bigger than him and the cage takes up all the space on it anyway. But he can still stare, so I put a towel over the top (There is still enough space to breathe, don't worry) And that stopped most of the attention and she can still look out. My cat rarely tries to get to her now. I will keep an eye on it though.

I have considered making sure he can't get in the room at all, but I really couldn't, so I decided to have the room locked when I am not it in the room so I can watch the hamster at all times. and if he tries to get to close, I will move him.

If you have any more Ideas, please tell me.

I have a cat and hamster too and like you I don't let them in the same room unattended and move the cat if he's taking too much interest in the hamster. Personally I think it is enriching for both pets to acknowledge each other as this brings out natural behaviours and experiences they'd get in the wild but at a much less stressful and dangerous level. I keep interaction between them at a minimum but I can't teach the cat to never be interested - it's his nature. I'll lift him off and distract him with a toy Instead.

I feel like my hamster winds the cat up by trying to get his tail through the clear plastic of the cage and staring back at the cat as if to say 'haha you can't get me

I have two cats but they never have access to the hamsters.
As natural hunters and curious creatures I personally wouldn't feel safe having them near them. Even if they couldn't get at the hammies I would worry that the smell and presence of a predator might cause the hamsters stress. I also would not like to take the chance that they might knock over a cage and the hamster escape and be lost or killed.
I also have have dog who also does not have access to the hamsters.
