Default Freezer in hamster room?

So I've been thinking about where the next hamster is going to live. We're going to be having work done in the lounge over the next year - moving a staircase and decorating, and the only room in the house that won't be affected is a downstairs bedroom which is nice and quiet and away from it all. So I had thought that was a good place for a hamster cage.

But we also have a small freezer in there (no room in the kitchen). It seems quite quiet but I wondered if it would be a problem for a hamster? I could move the freezer somewhere else if necessary but then it would be rather a long way from the kitchen!

I don't see why it should be a problem, I have my fridge freezer in the living room (my kitchen is less than tiny!) where the hams are & no one even seems to notice it except me!

I agree with cypher, I don't really think there should be an issue with it. Though your ham may hear it, they'll eventually become used to the noise. It must be understood that all of our electronic devices make many loud beeps and buzzing noises that our animals can hear all the time, but we're oblivious to them. However, these noises don't generally seem to bother them so this wouldn't be much different

I don't think it would be an issue If anything it gives you a closer place to freeze certain hamster supplies which is always a bonus!

That said it would depend on the hamster and how loud the noise is,since some hamsters are seemingly bulletproof while others are extremely skittish. But as long as it isn't loud it should be fine

I agree with the others, unless it's super old and makes a complete racket of course but general background electrical noise should be fine. I had Spike right next to a large aquarium running air pumps and filters for about a year and he was totally unbothered by it.

Lol! I thought it would be handy for frozen hamster supplies as well It's only a few months old and very quiet. Maybe make sure it's the other side of the room though.

Our hamster lives in the kitchen / living room, so has to contend with the fridge freezer, TV (rarely watched), oven, microwave and any other household noises. She's also about a metre from the bathroom, so gets the shower / loo noise too.

She has lived to tell the tale, and tbh I suspect it's one of the reasons why she's so calm and totally unfussed by anything. The only reaction we ever get is loud, sudden noises when you can feel her jump if she's in your hands. Nothing else bothers her!

Ah good point Inky - in our last house we had a lounge/kitchen, although the kitchen was at the far end, and we had a fridge in there. In fact Charlie's favourite place to go if he got away was behind the fridge, where it was difficult to get him out of. I guess a freezer is much the same as a fridge. He also got used to the TV and us talking and so on - but I think noisy builders and dust would be out of the question so next one would be better in a quieter room. Although I may end up sitting in there all night lol. We'll probably end up putting the tv in there anyway and decamping there for a few nights.

Sounds as though it would be just fine Serendipity. Poor Mocho lives in the middle of the active hub of the house but is ok. He comes out for a drink with the tv on close by. No wonder he loves it when we go to bed and he has complete peace and quiet!

I wouldn't worry about it being the other side of the room, one of my cages is only a couple of feet from the fridge & 4 hams have lived there without being remotely bothered by it.
