Congrats on Esmeralda! It's certainly such a special time you spend with your first hamster, so cherish it  Everything I would point out has already been said so I don't have much to add upon to it. Looking forward to hearing updates on how she's doing! Best wishes

Thank you, everyone. She seems to be settling down well, and has decided that she'll build her own nest,over in the back corner!
As soon as I'm sure the cage is escape-proof and I take it out of the bath, I'll post some pics.
And Hamsterita, of course I chose a Spanish name! Although I will be speaking to her in English!!

Congratulations on finding Esmerelda! Lovely name. Cardboard is always good for toys tissue boxes, kitchen roll inner tubes etc. Someone on here actually made a labyrinth house out of tissue boxes. Sometimes some things from kitchen cupboards are useful too. Pyrex casserole for a sand bath, or a salt pig for a sand bath. Plus I think there is Ikea in Spain isn't there?! All kind of little things in Ikea for making hamster toys - and knuff shelves for platforms.
