Re: Ivy died- so miserable
Ruth, so sad about Ivy. 2 years is a great age and you did nothing wrong.
Ivy sounds so lovely & adorable. They have such big impact in your life and when they pass they leave a huge hole in your heart.

Re: Ivy died- so miserable
Your special little Ivy was very loved. As people have said in posts before me, a hamster who was two years old is a very elderly hammie indeed. I am so sorry for your lost, but don't feel like either you or your son were bad hammie parents. From the sound of things, you guys were amazing and truly loved your little girl.

Re: Ivy died- so miserable
Ruth, I am truly about the sudden loss of Ivy. Please know that there was absolutely nothing that you did wrong. You and your family are amazing pet owners, and sometimes no matter how much love and pampering we give our little furry friends, they are called away to the rainbow bridge anyway. It was probably a stroke or heart attack that took Ivy. You and Dylan have every reason to mourn the loss of someone that you loved, cherished, and cared for no matter what anyone may say. It is because you love Ivy and you are a great pet owner that you do mourn so deeply. Although hamsters have typically short lives in the scheme of things and they are very tiny compared to many other pets, they are just as missed as any other family member when they are no longer with us. Take your time to mourn such a tremendous loss. When the time comes for you and your son to adopt another animal, know in your hearts that you gave Ivy the happiest and most loving home possible and enjoy opening your hearts to the possibility of changing the life of another who needs you and your love. Until that time, please find peace in the knowledge that you will be reunited one day and try to focus on all of the memories that you shared together.

Re: Ivy died- so miserable
Ivy sounds like she was well loved by all those who cared for her during her life and she was lucky to have such a caring home. I'm sorry to hear she died so suddenly; it must have been such a shock for you and your son. Tea bag boxes are lovely enrichment for hamsters and mine have had many to chew and snooze in over the years. Grieving for a much loved pet is not strange, no matter how big or small the pet.

Re: Ivy died- so miserable
Just reading back this thread from earlier in the year and your posts are so thoughtful and wise. I did get over what happened to Ivy and I've learned such a lot from this forum. I'd recommend it as compulsory reading for anyone who wants a hamster as well as experienced hampersons. See I learned a new word
