Sleeping Hamsters
Just wondering how many people never see their hamsters unless they wake up in the middle of the night to check on them? Are your hammys afraid of the light and this is why it's hard to spend time with them?
What are some ideas you have discovered to spend time with sleeping or hiding hamsters. Not counting the occasional treats or rustling of the bedding? I have a hamster that won't even take a treat from me it's been also 6 mo now
I have 8 hammys and really only 2 of them sleep so much that I rarely see them. I do see them but not much at all if the lights are on. They are both just afraid of the light vs being very nocturnal
Looking to get a LED light as the red light didn't work. They will hide until the red light goes off.
This is a redundant thread as unless you video recorded the hamster or wake up from sleep there isn't a way.

Re: Sleeping Hamsters
I always see my hamsters in the evening when I get home both Duncan and Chance have come to realize I get home around 6:00 and are out and about ready to get free time and food. That's very unfortunate that you can't see your hamsters with the light. Have you tried leaving it there for several minutes and stepping away so they come back out? It may not be the light, but instead it could be them hiding from your presence. To help them gain confidence, why not try some "confidence training" and teaching them you're a good thing. Hope you see them a bit more often

Re: Sleeping Hamsters
They are both fearful hammies but not confidence or all of them would hide from me, right? I won't give up on them tho, especially when the light is going to be on all night long

Re: Sleeping Hamsters
I wouldn't leave any light on all night long even a red one CB, they can still sense the light with red but just can't see much & having a light on all night would disturb their natural cycle.

Re: Sleeping Hamsters
Fairy (roborovski) will wait for the light to go off before she comes out. All the others are happy to be out and about after about nine thirty. I see them for about an hour before I need to sleep.

Re: Sleeping Hamsters
Your right Cypher, I was thinking that wasn't a good idea. I didn't buy any new lights for them today. I won't leave the red light on either until I go to sleep.
Drago, I've tried tuning the lights off then back on again but they go into hiding again.
FF It's Angel that won't take a treat from me, one of my robos as well.

Re: Sleeping Hamsters
My little fuzzball is quite regular with her times to be honest. I hear movement from her about 6pm and then she will wonder out between 7 and 8pm then will stay awake until about 7-8 am. I usually let her have some food and wonder around for half an hour after she is fully awake before I let her play out, alternating between the ball and playpen time, with some "lets climb on mummy" time in between.

Re: Sleeping Hamsters
i'm lucky to have a Syrian that wakes up around 6:00pm
She stays up all night after that. I'm so glad I have her.

If you use a red light it's best to just have it on for a short while when you want to watch them CB, don't leave it on while your asleep, it should be completely dark for them then.

Re: Sleeping Hamsters
I left it on one night till about 1:00am the hamsters didn't come out all that time. As soon as I turned out the light they went out about their business. So other than that one night did I leave it on. It's unfair for them, I know. I'll have to just try to make the best of it cause I don't like forcing anything on them. If they don't want to come out with me rustling up the bedding and luring them out with sunflower seeds won't work then at least I tried.
Kylie & Angel will sometimes come out when they hear the sound of food in their bowls.
That Burgess Hamster food is a huge hit over here. They love it!
