Re: new hamster extremely itchy
What food do you have her on? It's possible that it could be an allergy to the food she's currently eating. If possible, and if your vet thinks it's a good idea, switch temporarily to a high quality alternative and see if that makes a difference (make sure to switch over gradually). Best wishes

Re: new hamster extremely itchy
Is the bald spot where they gave the drops for the mite treatment? It's usually higher up the back but it could be a reaction which sometimes happens.
I agree a food allergy is a possibility or a nutritional deficiency, feeding the best mix you can get is always good.
Good things for general skin support are flax, evening primrose oil & brewers yeast.

Re: new hamster extremely itchy
Thanks everyone...they think the bald spot might be a reaction to the medication. She appears a little less itchy but ill try the food (slowly) over the mext week and see if any improvement. I asked the pet store i got her from and they said she was itchy when they had her (which would have been nice to know but whatever). What food would you guys recommend. The pet store had her on Oxbow but i just don't think it has a good amount of fat and she was itchy with them so maybe not that food. Thanks everyone again for helping.

Re: new hamster extremely itchy
Harry/Hazel is great it's what I use my hamster on (though I think there was a product change in the US version, meaning a little less protein so I've started to supplement using mealworms). If you decide to use a different brand, make sure there is 19% protein, 6% fat and 8% fiber.

Re: new hamster extremely itchy
Just to add on to what JLprarie said, also make sure the food that you're buying has those nutritional values AND contains no dyes or preservatives as these aren't very healthy for your hamster

Re: new hamster extremely itchy
Oxbow is not a good food. Some people might assume it's fine, but really it isn't going to give as much nutritional value as a higher quality food(in the US,Harry/Hazel Hamster or a Higgins combination with either Mazuri or Carefresh as these are the best choices, even better than Vitakraft which has dyes and other things regardless of formula which are not good).

Re: new hamster extremely itchy
Harry Hamster is what I use.
I hope the itching stops, typical pet shop, too eager to make money.
