Default Khaleesi's first jail break - but she is home safe. And grounded

Khaleesi seemed a bit agitated tonight and kept climbing the door when it was opened. So I put the ball in front of the door, she climbed in and I set her off rolling. 15 minutes later, next thing I know she is just casually strolling across the kitchen floor like "hi mum, I'm freeee". Then proceeded to explore down by the side of the washing machine. Some 25 minutes later, with the help of my neighbour ( a previous hamster owner) and a trail of apple treats leading to a pile, we caught her in the ball and returned her to her cage. My previously blonde ham was a tad dusty haha.

She seems very pleased with her self for causing mummy stress. Little does she know she is grounded for a week haha.

However, now she keeps falling asleep out in the open. Her little eyes keep closing and her head drooping. She is currently lay asleep on the substrate. I hope she has just tuckered herself out with all the excitement. She doesnt seem to be hurt and has eaten some broccoli and played on her wheel for a bit before dozing off. I'll keep an eye on my little escapee.

Being a hamster mum is stressful

Oh naughty little khaleesi! Don't worry about her being sleepy, it's tough for a runaway hamster as they soon realize they don't have a dish full of food nor a bottle with fresh water in it at all times! Her survival instincts kick in and take a lot out of her fluffy little body and thus a nice nap is well deserved. For future reference when it comes to exercise in the ball, you can put a strip of duct tape across the lid to ensure it's on and she can't escape and get herself into trouble! Glad to hear she's back home safe and sound

Ever since Forrest (our previous incumbent) worked out how to open a hamster ball, if the soft plyable sort run as hard into some thing solid until lid pops off or ball breaks, for the hard type of clear ball with only one lid wedge ball into a corner and work the lid from the inside until it opens.
So since then I have always taped the lids with a couple of pieces of electrical tape which I have found secures the lid so hammie can not get out...
Pip has learnt that she can chew at the lugs of the lid thus weakening the lid in the body of the ball.....
They are certainly not stupid little creatures as I have heard them described....

I definately need to invest in some duct tape and secure that little sucker in haha. I dont know who it was more traumatic for, me or her haha

Harvey escaped her ball the first time we used it too. I'd popped her in whilst I cleaned the cage only to be summoned back to the bedroom by a small child's voice shouting "Mummmeeee, Harvey's not in the ball anymore". It took 20 minutes to coax her out from under the bed (all the while "helpfully" assisted by small child) and the ball got taped up every time it was used after that.

They do like to give us a fright with their adventures!

She has such a sweet little face! But underneath it all she definitely looks like a little troublemaker

She's so beautiful!! She can be a little troublemaker but I'm sure you can't be mad at her when she looks at you with that cutie face.

Yeah I can't stay mad at her. She kept throwing cute faces at me so my resolve broke after 5 minutes haha. Especially when she started nodding off. So cute. Still grounded though and no more apple drops for a while, as she had a load last night trying to bribe her out
