Cinnamon Bear, keep the extra medication. In case you need it again (:
I ended up needing both my antibiotics and painkiller 6 months after the first time. But because I had enough left I didnt have to buy it twice (:

Penquin, were you using the meds for the same animal or a different hamster? You probably meant the same animal but Koala isn't here anymore who I was using the meds for. I'd like to keep them but would have no idea if I'm using the right med with the right dose. I was wondering that myself, especially the anti-biotic. The other drug was for mites, hopefully never needed again (Nightmare) !

Merry Christmas to Misty, today marks what would have been our first year together. I still can't believe that you're not here.
Merry Christmas to all of our friends over the rainbow bridge, I hope you've all been good - I'm sure you have! xx

I was thinking I would not have a bridged Hamster to add to this but early, early in the morning My beautiful, and very naughty Torty Girl Lady Godiva took on the assignment she was offered with the Boss. So Godiva, enjoy chewing up all the plastic you can find at the bridge. I don't think you will find cages at the bridge so you won't have any more screen mesh lids to destroy in the name of escaping. The massive Tumor that the Vet said was not operable is now gone and your sweet precious face is back to a normal size. I'm glad you didn't have to suffer much and I was going to take you in after Christmas to be helped to the bridge as your breathing was starting to become so labored. Enjoy your 1st Christmas with the Boss and remember your manners at Rainbow Bridge. I and your Only kept Son will continue the celebration on Earth and I am sure he will some day continue your genes on in many Grand pups. RIP

I don't think you can store opened antibiotics for six months. Also, I think it's effectiveness could decrease. My piggie Oreo, has been on so many medications but I binned most of them because they don't say how long they can be stored for. The only one I know of, is Loxicom/Metacam which has a longer shelf life

Ah it was for the same ham yeah! If you have a lot left I would still keep it until I had called the vet and asked them if it could be used for another pet though. But the reason being that there's a limit to how little antibiotics you can get prescribed here at a time. So when I got it, I had waaay too much. I had plenty left after the first round. I even have some left after the second time I needed it! So you can imagine how much the minimum you can get prescribed is.
If it isnt the same case in your country and you can get less prescribed at a time, then I probably wouldn't be too committed to saving it.

Good you pointed out that it was for the same pet! I didnt think about that at all. Sorry for the late reply, but the 2 last days have been hectic due to christmas

Loxicom/Metacam is painkillers though, not antibiotics (I hope that didnt sound harsh, i have no clue how else to word it). I was concerned about the shelf life as well, but my vet said it would still be good. I am very anxious about doing everything right when it comes to my fluffs, so I always end up asking my vet a ton of questions.

But it only brings up my point again, that no matter what, if you are the least in doubt at all, always ask your vet. In my case, it was all good, but I could just have been lucky (:
