Default How big should the flying saucer be?

I might be getting a flying saucer so I would like to know what size would work for my dwarf winter white.

A flying saucer isn't really a suitable wheel. They're very gimmicky unfortunately as they do claim they're more natural but in reality they are not capable of allowing a natural running position No matter what species or size, the wheel will always cause side arching due to the shape and structure of the wheel.

However, you could put money towards investing in a much better quality wheel such as a 9 inch Silent Runner which would be perfect for any dwarf species! They cost a bit more than some of the more readily available wheels, but they are of superior quality and are much safer.

Not sure if you have the same make in the US but here in the UK the medium, about 6.5" is suitable for a dwarf ham.

AmityvilleHams, I understand your concern, but I already have a Silent Runner wheel. I was thinking I would get him a Flying Saucer for a fun toy for Christmas. It would not be replacing his wheel. So 6.5"? Would it be better to get it bigger? Or have you tried it with dwarf hams and that works.

That's the size I've used with my Russian & Chinese hams that have used a saucer, bigger would probably be too hard for them to turn.

I think, provided you give both options, a saucer is a fine accessory to the cage. Both my Chinese and robo have 6.5" ones and use them as well as their wheels.
