Re: can someone help me?
Determining species is relatively simple, except in the case of potential hybrid hamsters. If your hamster isn't a robo or Chinese hamster and did not come from a breeder with a pedigree,it will be a hybrid hamster.

I got her from a friend who just couldn't care for her anymore. They didnt know anything about her and never handled her, so she was very timid when she first arrived, but now she loves to be held.she has a white belly and speckled grey on top of her back.

Re: can someone help me?
Why don't you pop a photo of her in this thread? If you can't post one through attaching it to a post (it's been a bit glitchy recently) then using a photo website like photobucket or flickr and posting the link works

That looks like a robo to me. I'm no expert though. I've never had a robo.

Re: can someone help me?
She is absolutely gorgeous! You've done well to handle her Robos are notoriously fast and not easy to handle and tame. Looks like you two have bonded. Robos like to dig tunnels and like quite a bit of cover I believe - so plenty of space in a cage but not too much "open" space above them - lots of tunnels and a platform or two should give shelter. Having said that they all have their own personalities and some will be braver than others. If you can give her as much depth of substrate as possible she may dig some tunnels A specific dwarf hamster mix is good as well - if you can get one.
