A dilemma!
Recently while at a pet store I fell in love with a very sweet and friendly female longhair Syrian. She was absolutely gorgeous, and I fought so hard with myself to not bring the beautiful girl home right away!
My biggest problem is not having permanent housing ready yet,and I won't until I move.I could temporarily use a large bin cage, but it wouldn't be anywhere near as nice as the permanent cage.
Should I just buy her if she's still there when I go back which may be this weekend?I can throw together a bin cage very easily if I do get her,so temporary housing isn't a problem. My biggest problem is thinking about if it would be necessarily fair since she'd get upgraded once I move anyways and the bin could always be useful later, but would this be the best idea?

Sometimes one just touches your heart Amity - if she is still there then bring her home - if not then fate has decided for you x

Re: A dilemma!
Can't wait till you get your hammie,
Exciting! A bin cage would be good as lots of people have bins as their permanent housing. Depends on the specs of the bin LOL

Re: A dilemma!
The bin will probably be one around 760ish square inches or so!I would definitely consider it for permanent housing for some dwarf hams, and it does seem like a big bin,but since I already have most of the materials and can build my own cage once I move there's no reason for me to use it permanently
If it does work out with the pet store still having her,I won't have much reason not to get her.I wouldn't be buying anything that different from what I need for the gerbils anyways,so I think it will be very good timing with the only exception of having to temporarily use a Comfort Wheel which I will just have to deal with for now if I do end up getting her.

Re: A dilemma!
I agree with soufflé. When you know, you know.
I also don't think a bin cage will be at all a problem. If she's a pet store ham, there is a good chance she will prefer it while she is settling in. I have found that some pet store hams, having started out in a small cage and then the upheaval of being taken home, seem to settle better in a smaller cage. I don't think that even if I had a really huge cage I would put a ham straight in it while I was taming them but that's just me.

Re: A dilemma!
That is another reason a bin cage will probably work then!I did think of that, and she honestly seems very tame already.I'm sure she wouldn't be right away though when she's trying to settle in,and her personality could change.
It does seem that for a lot of hams gradual upgrades can be better, but with the bin being the only option for now at least that is what she'd start in and once she gets tame and confident I could somehow divide the larger DIY cage and then gradually expand how much is divided in there until it eventually is the whole cage with no division.

Re: A dilemma!
Go and get her! She's tugged at your heart strings and a bin cage is perfectly fine!

Re: A dilemma!
I'll definitely try!I don't think I'll have much of a problem doing so anyways once I get food and prepare said bin cage,as even my parents seemed very fond of her

Re: A dilemma!
I'd love to get her but it's not even day time yet!I will be getting to the pet store as soon as possible though,so as long as she's still there I'm getting her.
