Default Keeping warm

What are ways to keep the hamster's tank(or cage) warm during the cold weather?
Usually I keep a cloth around(not over) the tank, and turn on the heater when the weather is extra cold.

Keeping the whole room warm enough is the best thing but other things you can do are make sure your ham has a nice big mountain of tissue for nesting & deep enough substrate to keep really warm.
If it gets very cold you can use heat pads, I never put these in contact with the cage though, I usually put mine on a shelf under the cage.

I agree with Cypher, I always increase the substrate and tissue and keep a heater on low 24/7 so it's always warm.

I tried a few things last year, but room temperature is the main thing It means having your heating on more, on low maybe. I had a heater on low during the night in winter and used to come down and find Charlie lazing in his sputnik near the heater - he liked being warm!

In Autumn when it's just the odd chilly evening, something like a heat pad would help but I reckon in the next couple of weeks or so it will be a case of needing a heater. They are affected by cold and are awake all night when most people have the heating off.

Someone recommende one of these last year and I got one. I propped it up against the end of the cage next to Charlie's hamster house but it was only really any good for this time of year.

That's the heat pad I use too.
It depends where you have you cage placed but I do find that under the cage on a shelf they are really effective, not a great deal of heat but enough to take the chill off the cage is it does get cold in the night.
I would guess that against the side of the cage the heat would dissipate a lot quicker.

The other thing I forgot to mention is fleece blankets, I have them (folded so at least a couple of thicknesses) under all my cages.
