Default Hamster Christmas

Yes, I mentioned the dreaded C word! But, I like to plan all gifts through the year months in advance, so am starting to think about Christmas. Santa Paws informs me that Sweep has been good this year, so I guess he deserves some presents! But am stuck on idea of what to get him! Any ideas??

Oh my goodness, the options are just endless!!

If you're thinking about toys, there are a few I'd highly recommend!

Climbing Frame for Hamsters from Natural Wood | Top deals on small pet accessories at zooplus

This one Bubblesky just LOVES. I have no idea why as it seems quite a boring thing to me but there we go! I pulled off the bells as I wasn't sure it they were hamster safe, and I also painted the top with plastikote to make it look like the stands were mushrooms! I hide treats at the top of it frequently and Bubblesky makes her way up very quickly now! At first she was a little unsure, however, now it must be her absolute favourite toy. You could even paint the tops like little round santas, or baubles? Go wild!

Tunnels & Dens: Sputnik Hanging Den | Small pet accessories at zooplus

Although I don't own this myself, I have heard only good things about it! Apparently most little furries just love it!

Birger Small Pet Playhouse: Free P&P on orders £29+ at zooplus!

No idea what this is like as I literally just found it but it looks like mega fun! You could paint it with plastikote to make it themed Christmassy or like a Santa's Cabin! And hide treats in different places to encourage hamsters to use the whole toy! Dunno whether it'd be big enough for Sweep but you could definitely give it a try.

Apart from toys there are loads of fantastic treats, wheels, dens, cages.... I mean, anything new is exciting right?? You don't have to spend loads of money, either, if you hunt around charity shops and bargain stores they often have things that a perfectly suited to hamsters. Wax melt holders are a great example - if you get them from somewhere like B + M they're cheap and safe.

Thanks. He already has a Sputnik lol. The third thing you linked looks fun, but he's a pretty big Syrian so I doubt he'd fit in it!!

Wrap up a Walnut.
Make or buy a big sand pit.
A bendy extendable tunnel.
A Christmas tree like his cube.
Last Christmas p@h had a gingerbread hamster house and other special hamster toys.
Treats are another present you could get..
Have a look at the cages thread and see if there is any toys etc Sweep would like.
A playpen (with solid sides)

Ooooooh ... If I got some boxes I could make him an advent calendar with a toy or some treats for each day and he could have that instead of a big present! ...

I got these socks a year or so ago - and used one as a hammy Christmas stocking

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Filled with a few treats. They bring extra festive treats out nearer Christmas - Rosewood usually do good ones. Any other hamster pressies can be wrapped up. You can also make a Christmas cracker with treats in out of a toilet roll and wrapping paper

Well I just hung it outside the cage for effect with the chews in It wasn't there very long and more for little boy's benefit - he thought Father Christmas had filled Charlie's sock. But yes that's a point - it needs to be where it can't be chewed. Once Charlie was out of the cage he was more intersted in getting inside the sock to find out what was in there to chew

You could probably make a DIY paper or cardboard or even wood stocking if you really wanted to and had the time which could be safe to chew if made right! However if it is out of reach as mentioned it isn't much of an issue anyways
