Whoops...
So I've had my first robo pair for a month or so now. I adore them. I think they're the prettiest little fuzz-buckets ever. Anyway I've waited like 2 years to get them because our Campbell's Max was loved too much and my other half didn't want to 'replace' her. She was awesome. Like super awesome.
One of my colleagues bought a Campbell's for her 8 year old daughter. Long story short the daughter isn't looking after ham. My other half has gone to Paris for the night...and....err...
How do I break it to him? I had to rescue her. I would change my little uns water and thin wonder if she had nice water or fresh food. I mean he doesn't like that he can't play with the robos in the same way but new ham (no name - daughter didn't even NAME little ham) but new peanut-breath looks sooooooo much like Max. He isn't gonna like it.
I don't know if this is hamster advice or relationship counselling!! Haha

Re: Whoops...
I'd be honest and explain the situation the hamster was in before you got her. That what you did was a good thing and she's bound to be much happier with you and your other half He may be upset about it for a little while but I'm sure she'll grown on him

Re: Whoops...
You could try telling him that you have rescued this Ham and you need his help.....
Go for the reverse psychology...

Re: Whoops...
Turns out...when the handover came Little Ham had no food, no water and was in the smallest cage you've ever seen in your life. All she had was a thin scatter of sawdust, a plastic wheel and a plastic house. Nothing to chew or climb, just empty plastic. And no water!! The first thing I did was put a little bowl of water in the cage and even though she's been moved around and in a car and was terrified she came rushing out and drank for ages. Poor little thing. I'd bought a little tub of treats (worms, seeds etc) coz she was gonna hide in my stock room and so I just put the whole thing in her cage and she looked at me like I was god's gift. Poor little thing! Anyway I covered the tiny cage with a gym towel and took her home at the end of the day. The other half was amazing. He said nobody was going to take a third-hand hammie and when I told him she had no water he was so angry for her! I've said he can name her (gulp) and he actually is really glad she's with us! She's in a new massive cage with coconuts and a stick wall with a massively deep pile of sawdust to dig in and a wooden bridge and a flying saucer and everything. And honestly she ran around it and you could just see in her little face she thought it was the best place EVER. She seems so happy. And when she saw the food she had she couldn't stuff enough in haha. Anyway, all is well that ends well, except she may end up with a stupid name like Tupperware or Cushion (I kid you not they are on his list).
Anybody know what the colouring is?

Re: Whoops...
Poor little thing, what a horrible start she's had, so glad to hear she has a nice new home with you now & that things worked out so well with OH! How could he not want to rescue & love her really!
I'm not that good on colours & it's a bit hard to tell from that photo but could be blue.

Re: Whoops...
I am no expert either and the photo is small, but if her main colouring is brown/black with some yellowish patches then my guess is that she is a lovely looking tort girl.

Re: Whoops...
I forgot about this page before but there's some quite good examples of the various colours here.

Re: Whoops...
Poor little girl, seems like she hasn't had the best start in life. I think your OH will understand if you explain the ham's previous situation and that something awful may have happened if you hadn't. Hopefully you can soon tame her

Re: Whoops...
No she doesn't have patches. She's got the dorsel stripe, pretty much black and is really dark greyish brown, black eyes with white under her chin. She's not black but not too far off it. Could she be blue?

Re: Whoops...
Well I agree with your other half I too was angry when I read how that poor little thing had been kept.
I am so glad you have her and are going to give her a loving home...
Can't wait to hear what you call her, there is nothing wrong with cushion as a name either
