How lovely. Dogs are just wonderful. My friend who worked with a lot of autistic children had dogs and the children always really took to them.

Hello, my cousin is Autistic and she does really good with rabbits and rats but rabbits are her favorite. Hamsters kinda scare her because they can be nervous and nippy more often but she loves them. Her rabbit rosemary licks her face though lol

That is a lovely story! So glad she bonded with the puppy and is going to have a puppy. I'm no expert, but dogs can be trained to look after people and do all sorts I think (saw a program about it recently). I'm not sure if that is a voluntary thing, the training, or a paid for thing, but some kind of special dog training might be good as well. On the other hand dogs tune into people as well.

Yes I know what you mean ... Next year she's going to be assessed more to see if her new puppy could be trained as a helper dog and if so what for. I think possibly the dog has to be a certain age but I'm not sure ... We have also booked a lady who lives near her to come to their house to do the basic training - you know like house training, sit/wait etc - as going to a group to learn would be difficult or her. That'll start after Christmas once the puppy has had time to settle in

The last time I did puppy training/toilet training, was from a Barbara Woodhouse book! A long time ago lol. It worked a treat within a few days. I think it was this one

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Barbara-Woo...bara+Woodhouse

I remember the toilet training bit was put sheet of newspaper all over the floor. Then each day remove a few - the dog goes to the newspaper. Until you just have one sheet on the back doormat - the dog pees there. Then move the newspaper to outside the door (means leaving the door for a while during the day so maybe not easy in winter!). By then the dog goes to the door to be let out to pee. It worked really well - the only downside being that, many months later, if anyone ever left a newspaper on the floor, the dog pee'd on it lol.

Very pleased to hear this news Pinkneon. The chosen puppy sounds wonderful and I do hope it all goes well for them both. A real bond should form and do a world of good.

It's very nice to hear that she found a special puppy that she bonded with.

Some dogs have a strong connection with their humans and just do things automatically, which can be the case in emotional support dogs and more

I know my dog has definitely helped a ton for me,so hopefully it is the same in this case!
