Bathing sand
Hi
I have never used sand for hamsters however I have heard that it is good or their skin. So I'm wondering which sand is the best for dwarf hamsters and does it really benefit their skin?
Thank you!

Re: Bathing sand
The supreme science (aka tiny friends) chinchilla sand is about the best there is & is available online or in many pet shops.
Sand baths are probably even more important for dwarf hams than syrians & they really do enjoy them.
The same sand can be used in litter trays too.

Re: Bathing sand
Hi spins, welcome to the forum.
Cypher is absolutely right, that bathing sand is fine. Our Syrian, Pluto loves his sandbath...and perfect for dwarf hams too!

Re: Bathing sand
You can use child's play sand it's come in big bags and if safe to use. It's normally wet in the bag so we dry it out in the oven.

Re: Bathing sand
Pip our Syrian loves her sand pit, bathes in it, digs in it and then pees in it..... Oh and kicks around the place when she is digging such is the ferocity of her exploits..

Re: Bathing sand
Hey! I have a Winter White hamster and I recently purchased chinchilla sand for him to use. I put him in the bathtub with his chinchilla sand in a bowl so that he could bathe himself and he doesn't use it, he just walks over it and looks for ways to leave the bath. any ideas on how i could get him to use it?

You may find it more efficient to make your own thread with this question
You can't really force them to use the bath. However, I expect he'll use it soon as sand is a favorite of Russians. You may want to consider leaving the sand in his cage all the time, it won't hurt him, and will also act as a toilet! Make sure the bowl is large enough and you should be just fine Best wishes

Having the sand bath in your hamsters cage would be less scary for the hamster. If your hamster still won't use it after a week. Try putting something over the top. Like a bendy bridge. Or put the bath under a platform/shelf within the cage.

Re: Bathing sand
I use the chinchilla sand too. My Syrian uses it for a potty (which I'm sooo happy) & my dwarves love to roll in it which removes oils from their fur & makes them fluffy. After awhile the dwarves (a couple of them) use the sand bath as a hidey & store food in there.
