A Sticky Situation!
Hello all,
So Nutmeg is moving into her Billy cage in around 3 hours but before I put her in I had to alter the cage yesterday. So instead of sealing the glass I am slotting it into the cage, so I glued down the wood with PVA Wood glue as nothing else was strong enough, it is toxic. So I wiped as much as possible away from the wood so it is clear but to prevent Nutmeg from chewing the wood I am going to paint it with Lemon juice and place a toy in front of each bit of wood, is this enough? I will keep an eye on if she chews the area.
Any tips?
Thanks

Re: A Sticky Situation!
What PVA glue did you use? As PVA is non toxic and water based.
How long have you left the glue to dry? As I would leave it 24hrs to completely dry.
I wouldn't put lemon juice on the wood, I would place wooden chew toys in front of each bit of wood and see whether Nutmeg chews the wood.

Re: A Sticky Situation!
I left it over night, another bit has just snapped off but have put glue in and will let it dry for the next few hours The PVA glue I used was PVA Bond, I read it and it says Don't take internally and if in eye or skin wash instantly, keep away from children. I am aiming for Nutmeg to go into the cage today, I could put wooden toys in front of the wood, the glue dries clearly though, so Nutmeg may not see it

Re: A Sticky Situation!
I just looked up PVA bond and their warnings are a little worrying. As the PVA wood glue I use, has no health warning on the bottle or online. I would recommend allowing the PVA glue to dry for at least 12 to 24 hrs as this will allow the glue to fully dry and for it to be at its strongest. I would just keep a close eye on Nutmeg and monitor if she starts chewing at the areas, they may need to be blocked off with safe chews.

Ok, will keep an eye out, what do you mean with blocked with Safe chews? Is that just block the area with wooden toys? Will leave the glue to dry until tomorrow morning

Re: A Sticky Situation!
I was meant to say wooden chew toys instead of safe, or chews that Nutmeg prefers to chew on. Does Nutmeg chew a lot normally?

Re: A Sticky Situation!
Not at all, she only has nibbled a bit on her little dinosaur chew toy

Re: A Sticky Situation!
Ok, it sounds like she wouldn't chew the wood to get to the glue, so it may be ok. I would probably wait to see what another member replies to see whether it would be OK, just to be on the safe side, as im a little concerned after seeing some warnings for the glue.

Re: A Sticky Situation!
I'd be a bit concerned too tbh, you may be lucky & she'll ignore it but you can't watch them all the time so I would try to find a way to make the glued area inaccessible unless someone who knows more about the glue thinks it's safe.
