What colour is this hamster?
Hi everyone,
My friends unsure of what colour her hamster is. Originally she thought it was dove banded but he now appears to be a more chocolate colour. However he has reddish eyes so i'm not entirely sure!
I thought Mink would be a possibility but he doesn't seem gingery brown
Only photo: Will try post clearer one
Has anyone gotta any idea of what colour he is?

He's definitely chocolate, is he from a pet shop? sometimes hamsters from pet shops should have black eyed but have red eyes for some reason. I believe chocolate hamsters have brown eyes? I'm not entirely sure - haven't seen one in person before. Looks too dark to be a mink, and he'd have eye rings also.

The gene is in the UK now, but it's with a breeder and I'm guessing this hamster is from a pet shop, otherwise they would know the colour of him
Also, the ears appear to be the same colour as the fur - chocolate colour, which is what a chocolate should have.

Think we need a clear pic of him/her as on my monitor it's ears look darker then it's coat. The joys of PC photos huh?

The NHC dove standard calls for "flesh grey" ears, whereas the chocolate standard calls for "very dark greyish brown" ears. That plus those very red eyes makes me think he is a dove rather than a chocolate (the standard for chocolate actually calls for black eyes, although I think most have very dark brown eyes).

Re: What colour is this hamster?
Hmm in these photos I would say he could be Umbrous Champagne(Black+Rust+Cinnamon) which would explain his chocolatey coloring, his Brown Ears, and his red eyes. I suggest Umbrous cause he is quite a bit darker then the Champagne hamsters I have seen.
If he is Dove he is the darkest Chocolate like Dove I've ever seen.
My Dovey was and Umbrous Dove and she is not anywhere near as dark as this fella
